Goal = younger, cheaper. Colquitt, you've been Dixon'ed. Broncos shaving costs to pay up Von.

He has to make the team first. Let's not totally write off Britton yet. Open competition.

Yeah, I know. I'm only stating that the Broncos would like Dixon to beat out Colquitt, in order to get younger and cheaper. Not saying that he'll do it. Kind of unfortunate too, since Colquitt was one of our best players in the post season last year. Just can't pay a punter 3.5 million with a 4 million dollar cap hit in Denver, CO.

True about the post season - but he was very average league wide (at altitude for 1/2 his games) during the season.

Colquitt's issue is just being consistent. Awful at times, great at other. Something hard to deal with in a punter or kicker, because you leave one on the roster in most cases, so you can't really afford inconsistency. Colquitt had as good of a post-season as you will ever see in a punter, but his regular season like George said was pretty weak.

See if his PS carries over this year or not. The heat is on now.

Colquitt was splendid in the Super Bowl. I've been on him for a couple of years (not that I could ever kick a football well) that he was overpaid. He rose to the occasion in the playoffs. Because of salary - Colquitt loses a draw between him and Dixon by salary cap reasons alone - may even lose by being only slightly better than Dixon.

Dixon will also - I think have to show he could be a plus holder since Colquitt has two jobs to replace on the roster. What is intriguing to me about Dixon is the fake play dimension he can bring. With the Broncos defense - an unsuccessful fake kick deep in the opponents end - would leave the offense a long field against the Denver ball hawking Defense. So going for the TD will be worth more in those situations to the Broncos.

Yes Colquitt had a good SB but 1 game doesn't make up for 10 terrible ones. If he can't be consistent then he doesn't deserve a spot on the team.

Colquitt had a great overall playoff, not just SB, but agree. As a punter you have to be consistent to stick around.

See how he does this preseason and see how Dixon looks. Should be interesting.

I will say though I do love what the Broncos have done to try and improve their special teams unit just as much as the other 2 units. A lot of the later round guys also were special teams stars at their schools. Heck even Simmons was used as a gunner for Boston College and was very good at it. So you add a guy who had one of the highest percentage of fair catches with those who are known as very good gunners and it looks to set up a very good unit that limits any kind of return ability.

Rookie contracts with the money allocations per draft stock are so easy now.

I use to hate when rookies held out.

Yup it really is nice to have it all set up the way that it is. Always worried about those top picks and honestly just how much of the cap they would take up with little idea of the kind of impact they would actually make. I would honestly worry quite a bit about getting Lynch signed if we were going by the old way. With it being the QB position no telling if his agent would try to demand more than where he was picked.
