Shouldn't he have had this surgery a year ago?

Hasn't this been an ongoing thing? Man...for a kid that young on a team that's NOT winning, letting him play with something sure sounds idiotic.

Guess they wanted to fill seats or something because I can't think of any other reason to let such a young player who is a big part of the future to play with something like that.

I'm curious as to what the issue is...could be a lot of things. May just be general joint laxity and he needs a capsular tightening. Or it could be a RC tear (not a big deal for hockey like it is for baseball). Hmmm...

In thinking about it, there's a few things I could understand them letting him play through a BIT, but "a few years" shows me it should've been done awhile ago. All of these surgeries involve a fairly slow rehab, you CAN'T push it early.

He needs to spend some time with Gary Roberts, you can get away with being a skinny kid in junior, but his slight frame can't take the pounding in the NHL.

I'll wait to hear what Dr. Carlyle has to say about this before I jump to any conclusions.

That's why we all like you IPW, you're always a patient man (well except when it came to reducing the hooker population of Buffalo, that seems to have declined very quickly :D)

"It's something I've got to look into and take care of," said Nugent-Hopkins. "It's something that's been nagging at me for a couple years.

"It got a little bit worse and it's something that has to be taken care of eventually. We all decided it was time."

His left shoulder has been a reoccurring problem for the centre. He missed 20 games last season because of it and then had to leave the Oilers' AHL affiliate last December to do some strengthening and conditioning on the shoulder before playing for Canada at the world junior championship.

"The plan was to get [the surgery] done before the season ends, so I'm recovered and good to go before next season," he said.

This type of decision making (and I don't blame RNH, I blame Oilers management) borders on incompetence.

If you look it up, you'll notice Buffalo doesn't have any rugby teams either. I wasn't taking any chances.

By the way, two of his first three years of his ELC gone and the Oil got 104 games out of RNH - Nice asset management.

Now THAT looks like an AC sprain/separated shoulder. You can have surgery for that...but if it's bad enough that it's needed, no idea why they let it go this long.

and if Hall and Eberle got long term $6m deals on their seconds contracts,
it seems likely #1 pick overall RNH would get similar.
