It has often been said that much of the NFL's incredible popularity can be traced back to the majestic images of NFL Films, which was founded by Ed Sabol. Sabol died on Monday at age 98.

? = why weren't Ed and his son Steve both ~enshrined~ together in the HOF,.......that would've been a great gesture esp. With Steve's declining health and Ed's age,......it could've been the first father/son enshrinement on the same day,....they were a one of a kind institution,........~R.I.P~.

.......they should've both went in at the same time/same day,.....both men gave nearly 50-yrs. to the NFL in a one of a kind category = NFL/Films,..........nuff' said.

Definitely a pioneer.

How majestic are those slow motion clips of a tight spiral finding its way into a receiver's arms?

God Speed Mr Sabol

I used to get so pumped watching his excerpts before every season. The background music is legendary and will always be associated with the NFL. And then when they hired John Facenda, NFL Films just soared. I'll miss all three.

:rip:

I too was mesmerized by those films as a kid. You didn't have all the high tech replays they have today. You either watched a live game or you saw the slow motion high resolution film with that music that was sure to get you pumped. And that narration. It was a significant factor in my growing to follow the sport back at a time before we had our own team.

All of this. NFL Films is part of what made the pro football into the most popular sport in the country.

RIP Ed: He made the game bigger than it was. His film style was simply "epic".
