Haydens coaching tree may be the best in CFB history as well. His impact was, and still is, felt all over CFB
It’s one of the best coaching trees, but the best goes to Frank Broyles.

My two favorite post game quotes from Coach Fry. I was at both games.

1993 after beating Purdue 26-17 to end a 5 game losing streak, he was asked about the game. He said something like: "At least the bleeding stopped!"

1996 after Upsetting Penn State 21-20 in Happy Valley, he crowed: "It's a Happy Hawkeye Valley today!"

lol.

He owned Iowa State for most of his 20 years in Iowa City (including a 15 game winning streak), but he was a character.

WTF? It's only sad if you get your ticket punched when you're young? Dude, you have a lot to learn about life. When we lose good guys like Hayden Fry at any age it's always sad.
Old people die. That’s what they do. It will happen to all of us.

So yes, it’s only sad if someone dies too young. At 90 he had lived beyond what’s expected and probably longer than he cared to, given the inevitably deteriorating mind and body.
