one of my favorite musicans for the very reason so many here have already stated....no one defied, evolved, experimented, reinvented, dared the way this guy did. a truly sad day
Earlier in the week on the way to work I saw someone listening to "Under Pressure". This guy, who looked kind of like me, surprised himself when he came close to misting up at the end of the song. What an idiot!
Bowie was one of those artists that I always respected, but just wasn't my cup of tea. That said, the guy was a complete original and his duet with Bing Crosby remains my favorite Christmas song.
And while I don't know how to explain this map entirely, I like to think that David Bowie is so famous that he has caused an entire nation to mispronounce a word. Now that's.... "faaaaaaaaaaaame."
I haven't been around lately so seeing this thread today reminds me of why I love this place. We remember and honor those who we've become friends with and those who inspire us in one way or another. David's passing hits me the same way as when Lennon was shot, when SRV tragically died in the helicopter crash, when Harrison passed from cancer. These were some of the most influential musicians in my life and rock history. Like many of his genre his influences were those who helped create rock and I know the path the Beatles took was one that influenced him as well. He was great friends with them and followed their lead in that they set no boundaries for their music and went down paths yet to be taken. After John's death he became a father figure for Sean. His voice had incredible range, he was a great song writer and musician, and he was as kind, humble and generous as they come. He was one of the first to commit to the Live Aid and 9/11 concerts. Those who knew him loved and respected him immensely as did his fans. The world has lost a truly great man. R.I.P. David.
I think this song is appropriate for him. A unique version at a charity concert:
