Revis second year was 2008 -- I think it was generally agreed that Nmandi was the best corner that year.

Revis had a transcendent year in 2009. There is no arguing this point - He was amazing.

Since that time he's clearly been one of the top corners, but I don't think he's a once in a generation player. I think Charles Woodson will go down as having the more memorable career.

I wouldn't argue against him as the best defensive player in the entire leauge over that time period.

He's 1st ballot HOF great if healthy.

He's never even won the defensive player of the year for a SINGLE year.... Including 2009.

There are a few things about the Bucs cap. They have No Dead Money. I dont have the exact figure but they have the lowest (and its not even close) amount of Signing bonus on the books, and almost Zero Dollars tied up in cutting a player. Only those on Rookie Contracts Before 2011 have signing bonuses, most of those will be gone by 2014. I think only McCoy will have a signing bonus.

All that said, the Bucs will be at the ceiling if they resign Mike Williams. The Bucs still have 16 Million for 2013.

Actually I forgot they redid Jackson and Nicks contracts. If the Bucs cut Jackson or Nicks in the next 3 years they will have a lot of Dead Money. But I dont think they get Cut.

This is probably why we have a difference of opinion on the trade. prior to his injury I'd put him in a class with Calvin Johnson and Adrian Peterson as the best player in the leauge outside of the QBs.

Woodson is obviously a more versatile player, but I'd take Revis over him any day. he shuts down half the field. i'd put him over Bailey too. not in terms of a body of work over a career obviously... but comparing those players with Revis at his best, I think he made more of an impact

Bailey has zero and D Sanders only won one over close to a 20 yr career.

It's not really an award for a cover corner. if a cover corner is doing their job they won't be compiling stats

It's an interesting argument..... Does a traditional cover corner have the same impact on the game as some of the other positions? In his day, Deion was the best.... But you can easily make the argument that the championship teams he played on would have won it all without him.

BTW.... I'd argue that the notion of 'cover corner' is now gone..... The NFL rules have limited what corners can do to shut down receivers and the best defenses aren't the ones with the best corners, but rather the best pass rushes. I'd still spend money on corners, but I'd invest more on guys that sack the quarterback.

In 1994 he was on San Fran when they beat Dallas in the NFCCG.
In 1995 he was on Dallas when they beat San Fran in the NFCCG.

If he was on Atlanta, as he was in 1993, I dont know if Dallas loses to San Fran.

Dallas shot themselves in the foot and fell down 21-0 in that game.... Deion wasn't really involved in any of that. Steve Young was due that year and wasn't going to be denied.

In the 95 season, Dallas didn't play SF in the championship. SF was on their way down.

I'd agree that the best pass rusher in the leauge should make more than the best corner more often than not. I expect Von Miller and JJ Watt to get more than Revis per yr when they sign their extensions.

I do think Revis (if healthy) can have as much impact as they do on a defense. Those championship contending teams in NY were built on his ability to cover the opponents best receiver in one on one coverage. I think it'll free up TB to blitz more sucessfully this yr. they forced a ton of TOs last yr, but they were gashed for big plays too. I don't think this is the Bucs looking to make headlines. i think the move fits in with what Schiano tries to do schematically..

The move's a huge gamble, but I think it's worth it

I still remember that game well. It took a really good Niners team and the entire Dallas team turning the ball over for them to finally lose a playoff game. they were good enough to win 4 straight SBs.

Whenever people want to call Aikman overrated they should look at that stretch those Dallas offenses had in the playoffs. They scored 35 pts a game in the post season over a 12 game stretch

If he's gone in a yr it's obviously a bad move. 16 million a yr isn't that much for a player of Revis's caliber assuming he's healthy. He was (by far) the key player on a team that made back to back conference championship game..

AJ Green's going to get 15 million a yr too.

If you have the most cap space in the NFL you can afford it.

I don't care how much money he's getting. The Bucs have more money than they can spend, and he won't ever count as dead money against the cap. It's a win-win there for the Bucs and Revis.

Where they lost is where they gave up a 1st and 3rd. No CB in the league is worth a 1st and 3rd. It's hard to justify giving up that kind of value for ANY player that isn't a QB.
