These 8 players account for $79.5 million, or 64.6%, of the Buc's $123 million salary cap. Unless the cap goes up significantly they're going to be in serious trouble.

Darrelle Revis- 6 yr/$96,000,000:avg. $16 mil

Gerald McCoy- 5 yr/$63,437,253: avg 12.7 mil

Vincent Jackson- 5 yr/$55,555,555: avg 11.1 mil

Davin Joseph- 7 yr/$52,500,000: avg $7.5 mil

Carl Nicks- 5 yr/$47,500,000: avg $9.5 mil

Donald Penn- 6 yr/$41,700,000: avg $6.95 mil

Dashon Goldson- 5 yr/$41,250,000: avg $8.25 mil

Eric Wright- 5 yr/$37,500,000: avg $7.5 mil

I doubt Eric Wright will still be there, he stinks.

If he does play in TB for six years, his contract will be re-worked at least two more times.

The Bengals are just about the only franchise that has players play every year on their deal (aside from rookie deals).

Exactly. With 0 guaranteed they can restructure at anytime and it won't push more money to the back end like most contracts do. This is the ideal thing for TB.

I'm interested to see if Revis does what Deion did in his later years and jump around to the highest bidder without ever signing guaranteed deals.

I don't see why you wouldn't? Teams are likely to give you more money over time if they don't have to guarantee it. Revis is already paid anyways. I think this makes the Buccs a legit contender in the NFC.

Actually they were 3rd and that was before they signed Dashon Goldson for $41.25 million. And I stand by my statement that they'll be in cap hell in a couple of years. His contract is set to average $13.3 million a year but as most contracts are back-loaded his salary cap will probably be $20 million during the deal final year and there is no way a team can afford to pay approximately 17% of their salary cap on a player who's not their QB especially when you consider Jackson's and Nick's deal will also be set to escalate.

Bengals: $28.9 million.

Browns: $28.7 million.

Buccaneers: $28.8 million.

Jaguars: $26.6 million.

Eagles: $26.3 million.

Team-by-team cap space, as of March 26 | ProFootballTalk

Gholston was signed on March 13th. that's the capspace as of March 26th. it obviously factors in the contract. Also it has the Bucs with more space than the Browns (I understand how their ordering of it was confusing, but look at the figure)

Eric Wright's already been put on a one yr restructred deal.

Buccaneers, Eric Wright agree to reworked contract | ProFootballTalk

Vincent Jackson, Revis, and Carl Nicks are great players to have a large percentage of your cap invested in imo...

I love the move.

Smith will be gone absolutely no later than 8. I don't see him falling past 4.

I've heard differently. he could be a top 10 pick, but he could also fall to the late 1st rd.

The fact that Andy Reid was willing to trade 2 2nd rd picks for Alex Smith tells me Geno Smith isn't an elite prospect. all of the teams with a QB need added some type of stopgap starter

There's nothing ideal about giving up a 1st and 3rd for a CB, especially for one that won't be around for more than a year or 2.

I think you nailed it, if he stays healthy. At any rate I would be surprised if he spends more than two years at Tampa, and after he's gone they'll be sorry they gave up the picks for the long run.

Tampa seems to be putting a lot of chips down for a team that doesn't have a proven qb.... Not sure this ends well for them - Especially given the competition they face within their own division.

If he's gone in a yr it's obviously a bad move. 16 million a yr isn't that much for a player of Revis's caliber assuming he's healthy. He was (by far) the key player on a team that made back to back conference championship game..

AJ Green's going to get 15 million a yr too.

If you have the most cap space in the NFL you can afford it.

They get a once-in-a-generation player for up to 6 prime seasons of his career.

I don't think it's about going all in on one yr

More than just Revis -- They have a lot of guys that have contracts with big figures attached to future years. I don't think they have the horses to win the championship this year because I don't think they have the quarterback..... And I'm not sure they have enough to even get in the playoffs assuming Atlanta stays healthy and New Orleans has a rebound year.

I also don't think Revis is a once-in-a-generation player. He was the best at his position in one or maybe two total seasons.

QB 1. 59.8 % 4,967 yards 20 TDs 17 INTs 79.8 rating
QB 2. 54.1 % 4,374 yards 23 TDs 18 INTs 76.5 rating
QB 3. 54.8 % 4,065 yards 27 TDs 17 INTs 81.6 rating
QB 4. 59.9 % 3,948 yards 26 TDs 15 INTs 87.2 rating
QB 5. 59.7 % 3,817 yards 22 TDs 10 INTs 87.7 rating

Can you name who those 5 QB's are? All of their numbers are pretty similar.

He has been the best at his position probably every year since his 2nd year.

Here's an interesting article on how they've been structuring their contracts.

Salary structure key in Bucs-Revis negotiations | Breaking Tampa Bay, Florida and national news and weather from Tampa Bay Online and The Tampa Tribune | TBO.com

"When Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik signed WR Vincent Jackson to a five-year, $55.5 million contract last year, he followed a structural design he considers unique.

Unlike many general managers, Dominik piles all of the guaranteed payouts into the first two years of his contracts because it alleviates long-term salary cap issues and allows the Bucs to quickly get out from under a deal gone bad."

Factor that in with the Mike Brown-esque cap space they had prior to the deal I don't see the contractual terms as much of an issue. 16 million a yr for a CB is a luxury, but it's a luxury they can afford.

I wouldn't argue against him as the best defensive player in the entire leauge over that time period.

He's 1st ballot HOF great if healthy.
