sounds like it's almost a done deal. he's going to TB for his physical. i'm not completely sold on Freeman as a franchise QB, but he's talented and he's at least serviceable. And the rest of that roster is loaded. The Bucs should be dangerous this yr. Good deal for both sides if Revis is healthy.

The Bucs defense gave up the fewest rushing yds and yards per carry last season. Schiano's blitz happy so he needs a shutdown corner for his scheme to work against the pass. Plus they've got the cap space.

With trade likely, Jets give permission for Darrelle Revis to visit Bucs | ProFootballTalk

You guys signed Goldson.

I agree with you on the pass rush, but the Jets had some elite defenses without an edge pass rusher. If Revis is 100 percent healthy, he takes out the opposing teams best wideout with 1 on 1 coverage, and gives the DC an extra man to play with on blitzes. they can generate a pass rush without the edge pass rusher.

outside of the elite QBs, I think Revis is the biggest difference maker in the leauge if he's healthy.

The Bucs get Revis
The Jets get this year's 1st round pick and a 3rd rounder next year (Yes, the Bengals got more for Carson Palmer)

Revis gets a new 6 year $96 million contract, but $0 guaranteed.

There's no way he'll see all that money. It's not going to happen. Last year they signed Vincent Jackson for $55.5 million, Carl Nicks for $47.5 million and Eric Wright for $37.5 million then this year they sign Dashon Goldson for $41.25 million and then turn around and give Revis $96 million? They'll be in salary hell in a year of two.

If he plays well this year, there will be a holdout and either a re-negotiation, or they'll be forced to look elsewhere. If he plays poorly, the team can cut him with no penalty.

They had the second most capspace in the NFL (Bengals are #1) before the trade.

If he's 100 percent healthy I think he'll see the whole deal.

Kind of a random thought, but I wonder if the Jets draft a QB since they have a pick to burn?

I had that thought too, but people on Twitter who know more than me say probably not.

If the Jets, with one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL, and 2 picks in the first half of the rd aren't interested, Smith could really fall..

Actually they were 3rd and that was before they signed Dashon Goldson for $41.25 million. And I stand by my statement that they'll be in cap hell in a couple of years. His contract is set to average $13.3 million a year but as most contracts are back-loaded his salary cap will probably be $20 million during the deal final year and there is no way a team can afford to pay approximately 17% of their salary cap on a player who's not their QB especially when you consider Jackson's and Nick's deal will also be set to escalate.

Bengals: $28.9 million.

Browns: $28.7 million.

Buccaneers: $28.8 million.

Jaguars: $26.6 million.

Eagles: $26.3 million.

Smith will be gone absolutely no later than 8. I don't see him falling past 4.

From what I can tell he will literally get 16 mil each year. No back loading or anything like that. 13 mil base salary each year with 3 mil in bonuses.
