Going to be fun listening to fans from other teams thinking they can sign him for cheap. 49ers fans are already talking about signing him for $6 million.

I actually wouldnt mind Revis going to the 49ers.
It would eat a chunk of their cap, add fuel to the rivalry with the Revis-Sherman factor, and not affect the Hawks offense to much since they are run first. Bring it!

Revis is only 28 and still one of the NFL's best cornerbacks. The idea of getting him at $6m is ridiculous. The Buccaneers cut him because his $16m in cap space was too much, not because he's not good. His contract was stupid in the first place and will likely sign a new multi-year deal that pays in excess of $50m. Hopefully for his sake he is not stupid enough to go for another non-guaranteed deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone picks him up for a relative bargain. I would think that if a team would be willing to give him a massive contract, then some team would have given up a late draft pick and taken the 16 mil cap hit this year and see how he works out before making a big long term investment.

I hope this shows Sherman that Revis's 16 mil a year isn't and shouldn't be a bench mark for how much a CB should be paid, because obviously his contract got him cut only after 1 year. In the NFL what matters is guaranteed money and the only reason Revis got such a big contract was because none of it was guaranteed.

Sherman is a smart guy and he should see that it's better for him to settle for something slightly lower than the market rate if he can get 1) more guaranteed money and 2) he gets to play on this defense and cement his legacy by having a better chance to win

49er fan. Singular. And one who doesn't realize Revis will get millions in the double digits.

Relative is the key term. Revis signing for a bargain is still going to cost a big chunk of dough. I don't see him signing for less than $10M per and I don't see him signing another contract w/o guaranteed money.

49ers don't have the cap space. He's going to command more than they can afford, especially if they give Kaep 20 mil a year. They'll have to go bargin bin hunting as usual.

The Packers make the most sense because they play Megatron twice a year and Marshall twice a year and they have cap space. I dont think his number will dip below $12 million a year

I don't think he's officially been cut yet, but I don't see how any team would be willing to give up anything of value for him in a trade, so his release is imminent I would imagine. Then again, there are still a few stupid GMs out there, so a trade can't be completely ruled out either. If (when?) he gets released, his pay will most definitely come a lot closer to the rest of the field, so even if he still ends up getting paid the most of any CB in the league, it shouldn't be by a ton like it is now.

You're probably right.

It just seems strange that a team wouldn't be willing to trade a late pick and pay him 16 for one year, but be willing to sign him for 12 or so per year with 25+ guaranteed. Either way he would most likely be getting that 16 mil or more this year.

Tampa was willing to do the high contract like they did because 1) they had the cap space at the time and 2) they could cut him any season they wanted with no penalty so it was essentially a contract based on his playing ability. If he didn't perform the team had nothing holding them back from just cutting him. So if Revis wants a long term deal he is going to have to settle for less per year but with more guaranteed. Right now teams have been saying his value falls somewhere between $10-12 million which is pretty much right. I mean he did grade out as the top corner in the NFL last season (doesn't mean I think he was as I do think Sherman was the top guy) so I don't think he has lost any of his playing skills from the injury.

Looks like Revis signed with the Pats for $12 Million. That's about right.

Sherman likes that

Mmmm I think Sherman was hoping Revis signed a bigger contract. There were posters on the general board that claimed it would take $20 million to resign Sherman.

Sherman's contract will be around $11-$12 mil. But he'll actually get a long term contract with insane guaranteed money.
