The NHL has announced that next season, new technology will be added to players and pucks that will allow real time data acquisition.
I'm not too keen on this for several reasons.
1. I remember when Fox tracked the puck with the "comet" tail. That was a mess.
2. In defense of Fox using the comet, TVs were still in the small screen age. With today's HD and wide screens, hockey is easy to follow.
3. I think the NFL and college football has overdone the on filed markings of 1st down lines, field goal lines to make , etc. This year I noticed that one of the networks darkened the grass of the yards necessary to be made for a first down.
