I was the first to mess with this system, so in that I apologize, but it was NOT my intention to "use" rep as anything other than another way to "goof around" while posting here.

I honestly thought others would see what I was trying to do with it and follow suit knowing full well in advance that it really meant nothing at all and it was something "fun" to play with.

Apparently I was wrong.


Sooo....to end this sad excuse I want to go on record as saying that I will most definitely do everything in my power to fuck up the next installed "I love you man!" app added here.

My take (I'm sure all of you are on the edge of your seat for this one ), I did like the rep system in that you could let another poster know if you thought their post was funny, good, informative, fucking awesome, etc (without having to send a PM or waste a post on it). That said, I didn't care one way or the other about the tallying/accumulation of the reps. I mean, if I met somebody on this board in person, are they really going to say "I have more rep than you on SportsHoopla"???

Hey, how many times have you ever received rep from the same person for the same post? I once had one where 4706 hit me 4 times and countless times I got hit twice by the same person. Obviously it was a glitch but I wasn't going to complain about it either. lol

I feel like this could have been solved by simply removing negative reps. In my experience that was where all the shit seemed to start and end.

I guess the one drawback with the "likes/dislikes" is that you're going to get entire herds piling on dislikes just for the sake of annoying someone outside of the inner circle. I can pretty much see someone bitch crying to the mods that he/she just got gang-disliked and that's not fair.

One cool thing I liked about the rep system was that you could leave a little message instead of using PMs, which may or may not been seen as an invitation to PM each other for the next 2 hours.

I don't really give two shits about points, but sometimes someone makes a really good post or a really salient point, and there should be a way to acknowledge that. I don't usually make a post if it's just to say "that was funny", "I agree", or "well said", so I prefer a quick rep or like system.

Also sometimes someone's post makes me think of a quick joke or one liner that's worth sending via rep, but isn't really worth posting on it's own.

Also sometimes I like to rep people, but in the text block just call them a horrible racial slur, it really really seems to confuse people.
