I mean, it's a blink and you miss. Were those just transition years for the AL? That Royals team completely dropped off the radar after their WS win.

Their system wasn't good, they knew it, the fans knew it, and everyone knew it. They were already in the backend of their window. They have not drafted well since the beginning of the decade- and they are paying for it quite dearly now. There's a reason they threw all kinds of assets to get Cueto and Zobrist at the time. Only Manaea has been worth a damn.

What is more odd is how delusional they were in 2016 and 2017. Giving up Strahm was probably not super smart at the time.

I mean my god- they're just now getting Bubba Starling into MLB games- that would've been very exciting in... 2014!

It is pretty bizarre to look at the AL standings in 2014. 3 of those playoff teams are the three worst teams in baseball (BAL, KCR, DET), a middling team (LA) and a potential WC team (OAK). Houston was 70-92 (which was a huge improvement over the back-to-back 107+ loss seasons) and they've established themselves as a powerhouse, the Yanks were rebuilding their farm system and the Red Sox followed up a surprise WS run with a lousy 2014 campaign.

I clearly remember it being the Royals in 2014 because the Giants whipped up on them.

In 7 games? Come on now...
I thought I was gonna die watching that ball get through our left fielder with two outs in the 9th. Fortunately the 3B coach held him up at third and after about 15 ecruciating pitches Bumgarner got the catcher to pop up to Sandoval. That's the game where Bumgarner solidified his reputation as one of the best post season pitchers of his generation.

But why did you say that SF whooped up on them? It was a 7 game series that the Giants won by an ass hair. 90 feet, to be exact.

As mentioned, that was the back-end of a short KC window.

This tends to happen in baseball. Where there is no salary cap and the small market teams like KC cannot retain their top level talent. It takes a long time for teams like the Royals or Marlins to build a contending team. Then, it comes and goes in a flash. Back to square one.

They could have lessened the blow of their core departures if they had talent waiting in the farm system. However, they were very thin and that has led them to where they are now.

Small market clubs have to rebuild every so often. Just the nature of the beast.

if only David Glass had some money.
"At least he spends more than the Marlins"

Not sure I would've given any of those guys a serious contract outside of Moustakas, and he seems to be in 1 year deal hell for some weird reason.

Hosmer is just a groundball merchant and Cain too old.

Had they gotten more out of their drafts, 2016 and 17 are likely quite a bit more fruitful than the middling outfits they were.

They won. So "whooped up on them" is appropriate.

Lol. No... not at all. That was worth a shot on your part, though.
Don't be a fool. Its extremely appropriate. The Giants won and the Royals lost. That won't change no matter how desperately you want it to.

Can’t be too pissed if you are a Royals fans. Got to B2B WS and won 1.

Even though y’all didn’t win in 2014 that playoff run was as entertaining as it gets. And a Great WS

I hated that Royals team.

A win does not = "Ass whooping"

... not anymore than sticking your dick in a chick and having it go soft = "Fucking the shit out of her"

No matter how desperately you want it to.
