Wilt had many flaws to his game. Red A was the master at abusing them, especially once 4th quarter came and he needed to deliver in the crunch.

McHale definitely would've been a bigger scorer if he were not the 3rd or 4th option...same with Worthy, but they were perfect in the roles they had. I'm not sure if they had the complete game to be dominant in this era.

Yeah, both teams were lucky to have players like McHale and Worthy who were willing to sacrifice their personal stats/glory to win rings.

I don't know what their games would be missing that would keep them from being dominant players in this era. I think they'd both be top 10 in today's game.

Remember when Wilt won a playoff series against the Celtics?

He did win one didn't he? I mean at least one?

Sorry Trojan, had to remind Hammer that Peyton was not the only one to loose so many playoffs games.

Yah anybody can win with 5 other HOF's on their team, in an 8 team league.

Russell will always be Wilts' bitch.

Yah the facts say Wilt dominated Russell when they played, so he got bailed out by his HOF teammates. There are plenty of average players that have a ton of rings.

Why doesn't anyone remember Sam Jones with 10 rings. He averaged more points than Russell. :laugh3:

Or Tom Heinsohn he also averaged more points than Russell. Both Jones and him were on Russell's team.

Bill Sharman also averaged more points than Russell, so did Cousy and Havlicek. I just named 5 HOF's not including Russell and I am missing some too.

So he won in an 8 team league with no salary cap, with at least 5 HOF's and the average height for a player was like 6'3". Russell is getting worse and worse as we speak.

The 63 Celtics featured 8 HOF's: Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, Bill Russell, Frank Ramsey, K.C. Jones, Sam Jones, Clyde Lovellette, & John Havlicek.

Worthy...you have to remember how those Lakers played...the halfcourt OFC was basically feed it into Kareem in the high or low post, and you'd have cutters off him... with back side screens to open of the shooters. Worthy was the receiver of a lot of of those assists from Cap for dunks or easy finishes.

Worthy did eventually get a consistent 15-18' jumper to go with his speed on the break...while he did have a post game, it wasn't his strength...and a limited LH off the bounce...in this era...I don't know if he had the handle to be a dominant player.

McHale...he also had a 15-18' shot also...had enough ball fakes, etc. to be an effective low post players today, but not the range of a big like Malone, Dirk, or Love...All star player in this era, because of his low post game, but again, dominant idk.

Seems like it uh...no, you take Russell off those Celtic teams and Chamberlin wins a ton more titles...to be totally honest...Russell was Dennis Rodman, before Dennis Rodman. Great rebounder, defender, and passer to start the break, screener...to be entirely honest idk if he had more OFC and just deferred or not.

Shaneman, I just need to explain to you that +/- is what wins games, and there he was the greatest. But do try to use one dimension to save yourself......................facts and rings always trump emotions

96 steeler, a good comparison on the rodman angle with regards to his rebounds and general tenacity.

Depending on how you do your GOAT list physical attributes and skill level have a lot less to do with it than the accomplishments you earned to prove your worth.

In my eyes there is no more physically gifted player than Wilt, and he dominated every one, even Bill. So I see that argument, I just think if that is your argument then no SG, PG, SF or even PF should be considered in the top 20. In 1 on 1 basketball centers would dominate the tournament.

I also think you need to base ratings on how they did in their era for 2 huge reasons. Technology (primarily nutrition and training but also analytics) available would be used by the greats. Barkley is not a great because of his work ethic. He wouldn't have used the technology available because he didn't. True greats would of. The second is that the game does change. Every thing from fundamental importance to play construction.

Now, debating Kareem is a different story. But that requires an infusion of logic................

No NBA player has ever recorded a PER of 32 (Wilt Chamberlain's 31.8 in 1962-63 is the record).

Wilt > every other big man who has ever lived
