It would be even easier if you had a private job. They can fire you for any reason they want, outside of discrimination. As I said, freedom of expression is a two way street. You can say what you want without being arrested. They can hire and fire who they want.

Not every state has the same rules regarding it, but they all have some form of at-will employment.

Odds are you probably actually signed an acknowledgment of such at your current job, though it was probably buried in a stack of legal mumbo-jumbo statements.

Some non-professional jobs also include a statement to that effect on the application.

I just feel that a company should not be able to fire you, nor should a school be able to suspend/expel you for an affiliation you have, be it religious/spiritual/or culturally (I guess a hate group would fall here) motivated.

It is kind of hollow on the school's part to punish for this and not punish every fucking retard who barfed out "Happy 4/20 heh heh heh", but whatever. Point is, they are completely within their rights to do so. All the school did was take away their ability to engage in extracurricular activities that the school district pays for. Not anything that the kids had a right to.

As for work and such, well if you are stupid enough to openly join a hate group, you are also stupid enough to do something else that will give your employer grounds to fire you. It's just a matter of time. And the company doesn't have to tread into the tricky waters of first amendment law.

I'm with you on this. They are idiots, but unless this was from a school computer the school shouldn't be involved. Also, I'm not sure how big I am on policing the internet in terms of free speech.

I believe the school does have the right to suspend them from their respective activities. Character flaws and such. Good luck getting a scholarship boys.

Not trying to be an ass 43, but racism is different than a hate crime. One cold openly advocate their hatred for a race without facing any charges. If you target a "minority" and do any bodily harm, or damage their property, or just cross the breach of peace(?) line if you are taking it a little too far, then yes.
