Good pickup for the Sabres. Everybody is saying Kotalik is involved. I wonder what the heck the sabres are gonna do with him. Pegula, bury him in the minors before you buy him out, help our long term cap situations.

Deal to be officially announced this morning - I think the Sabres will like what Regehr brings to the table, he's not flashy, but he's very steady.

Regher, Kotalik, 2nd rounder to BUF for Butler, Byron

So Buf gets the pick? Hmm...thought the pick would go to CAL

So, do Calgary throw in the 2nd round pick for Buffalo to take Kotalik?!? I don't like that if true.

The sky is falling at Calgarypuck, the general consensus is that this is worse than the Phaneuf trade.

I was shocked to hear the Sabres got the second round pick. They got the best of this deal.

Congrats, Boss, I think you're gonna like Regehr on the backend. If the Sabres pair him with Myers, that's a pretty good combo for 22-24 minutes per night.

Thanks for not gloating either, you're a class act buddy.

I always liked Regehr and I was thinking of that combo or reunite him with Leopold. Weren't they partners before?

Anyway, if they put him with Myers it should help the kid with his defense. He makes that odd mistake here and there. Nothing wrong with his offensive game tho.

I agree. I hope we resign Montador as well. Put him will Myers and put Regehr with Leopold.

Me thinks i'm going to like Mr Pegula. I think buying the Amerks was a very smart move too.

On Regher, this is a contract dump, plain and simple. Quite honestly, Robin has been in decline for four seasons now and really isn't as dominant as he used to be. Maybe the Sabres system rejuvinates him.

But the Sabres were desperate for veteran leadership on the back end. That was obvious in the playoffs. His leadership and helping with the younger players is where most of his value will come. Besides he's only 31.

Yeah he will really be able to help Tyler Myers along. Regher really brought Mark Giordano's game up to a higher level.

I don't think Feaster is much different from Sutter thus far. Last night he talked about having to utilize their draft picks better & develop the farm system. Then he trades away the Flames 2nd round pick in 2012.

The only positive I see for the Flames in this trade is Feaster got rid of Kotalik. I've got to give him credit for that. I sure as heck didn't think anybody would want him.

Yes, Regehr and Leopold were partners before. Funny that three former Flames (Regehr, Leopold, and Montador) are now key components of the Sabres blueline.

I'd be a lot happier with this deal if it'd been Bouwmeester going the other way rather than Regehr. I don't know.

This deal really speaks to the Flames situation that they have get rid of their best dman signed to a very cheap contract just to get any cap relief.

Sabres knew exactly what they were doing with this trade. They get the big defenseman in Regher and get someone to put Myers with as he still needs a veteran defender alongside him at this point.

The sabres are also very very familiar with Alex Kotalik considering he spent several years in the sabres system and on the sabres team during their "cup run years with drury and brierre".

The reason the sabers got the 2nd round pick is Calgary wanted Bryon and sabres didn't want to give him up for just kotalik and regher. Calgary threw in the 2nd round pick to add bryon to the deal. As calgary is a big team and doesn't have that smaller quick forward in their system at all. The Sabres on the other hand are full of smaller forwards so when calgary offered the 2nd pick as well sabres pulled the trigger.
