IF they are releasing Paea that would be something. He is one of SM's guys. Is Jenkins mostly a run stuffer now?

Mike Jones...

Jenkins is expected to compete for time at end in Washington’s base three-man fronts, and at tackle in the four-man nickel packages.

I thought RJF, Reyes, and Hood were doing a good job. If Paea doesn't get cut then this move could push Ionnadis to the PS. Plus wasn't Murphy supposed to contribute on passing situations at DE?

I admit signing a 35 year old DE confuses me as to what the plan is here.

What it does indicate, is that Scot isn't satisfied with what he's seeing on the Dline.

I think it's Cullen over Kedrick and Kendall. No, I can't say that 3 times fast. First team defense still got blowed up in the middle. I'd definitely take Jenkins over Kedrick Golston and probably over Kendall Reyes and Steven Paea. I hope it's Golston that's the odd man out.

Yeah but is Jenkins a true NT?

No, but neither is Golston or probably anyone else they have, and they're not going to use a NT more than a quarter of the time. I guess they hope that Ionnidis helps out there by the end of the season.

Per Rich Tandler on March 30th:
Knighton played under a one-year contract that paid him $4 million last year. Before free agency started earlier this month the team informed Knighton that they may be looking for someone else at nose tackle. He wasn’t as effective as they wanted him to be and they believed that was due at least in part to his weight, which was around 360 pounds.

The team also wanted someone who could be more versatile and play effective in a four-man front, the Redskins’ alignment on about 75 percent of their plays. Knighton’s weight also was a factor in limiting him there.

According to Baker, Knighton has “dropped 30, 40 pounds” since the end of the season and is highly motivated to make up for his subpar 2015 season. If we are to believe Baker we will know by lunchtime if Knighton will get his shot at redemption here.

Jenkins signed a one-year contract, a team source confirmed. The Washington Post first reported the news.

"I still offer a lot," Jenkins said Monday. "I still have a lot of quickness and experience ... and the ability to still get after the quarterback and be a versatile player. That's what I've been my whole career. That's still my goal."

Jenkins, 35, could add interior pass rush depth if he makes the 53-man roster.

"It adds another veteran player with some flexibility on the defensive line," coach Jay Gruden said. "He's played a little bit of everything in his career. He's in good shape.

"Got to get his legs back under him out here at practice, get a good look at him, and we'll make a decision. But to add a veteran player of that caliber I think is a good thing."

Jenkins said he was not assured of a spot on the final 53-man roster. Final cuts must be made by 4 p.m. ET Saturday.

"I know it's a matter of me having to prove myself," he said. "I'm an older guy, so I don't expect any guarantees coming into this thing. You come in, you prove yourself, and you show what you got."

Jenkins, entering his 13th season, has played for Green Bay, Philadelphiaand the New York Giants, where he started 39 games the past three seasons. Jenkins, who has 47.5 career sacks, spent the first seven years with the Packers.

He would face all three of his former teams in 2016 if he makes the Redskins roster.

"It's a little more motivation because you're going against teams you used to be a part of and didn't bring you back for whatever reason," he said. "It's a little more fire."

The Redskins first worked out Jenkins on Monday morning. They have depth inside but need more pass rush help on the interior. Their best pass-rusher is end Chris Baker, who recorded a career-best six sacks last season.

Jenkins said he did not take a workout with any other teams but had received calls about his availability.

I say we give Pot Roast a shot at prove kind of deal. He had his chance with us and chose more money with Pats and he saw how that went. He knows our defense and I think he is a upgrade at our most needed position NT/DT. If we can sign for cheap then why not.

Meh. He's strictly a nose tackle, and we're only using a NT maybe 25% of the time. If they don't go after him, there's a reason they don't go after him.
