It helps we did not wait until his contract expired. We extended him…had we waited until after this season or late in this one, it would have been 20 million.

With expectations of what Young and Sweat will be in yr 2, Allen, Payne, Ionman and Settle should have huge years. Possibly 4-5 sacks from Settle?

Yes he is. I would prefer to get the cheaper Settle over Payne.

why would you do that ? you use a 1st rounder on him , he is at least a borderline PB player , and we will give him up for a guy who statistically will be a solid starter for 5-7 yrs ?

Ironman, at least statistically..is better than Payne. Settle also has been solid.
It was simply feeling out what we could get, if a contract stalemate was imminent. I don't want Payne gone, but business is business.

we dont know anything about any contract issues yet and it isnt an issue till 2023 when i expect he will get a contract somewhere around allens

You have to be open to taking a 2nd or 1st for expiring contract guys. Payne isn't exactly Aaron Donald
