So you wrote about how it's so wrong for the Red Sox to have "gave up" a liability?

That sounds stupid.

Now you are just being ridiculous.

My point was about giving up Mookie Betts and that giving up Mookie Betts was ridiculous ESPECIALLY if it was simply to get Price's contract off the books. Which they only sorta did.

if they got LA to take all of price or eovaldi you'd have a point.

But this is basically price's fair value, very little surplus value if he has any injuries the next 3 years.

My point is that they could have found other ways to get rid of Price's contract that getting rid of a future Hall of Famer.

They simply didn't want to give up assets to dump Price and then wind up paying Betts nearly 40 million next year. It was a pure financial decision which ignored the sports and fandom aspect of the business.

They didn't want to pay him that for 12 years .

He wants 35m per year I was good offering 8 for 280. He's 2 years older than Machado and Harper when they hit FA. That matters.

He's a dramatically better player than Harper and Machado.

I'd suggest then that you not cloud your point by talking about them also "giving up" a liability.

You're welcome.

You probably remember that back in the day, I was a Red Sox fan. 2007 absolutely killed that for me. Not only did they knock the Indians out of the postseason, but I was also convinced that the Red Sox front office leaked the PED news about Paul Byrd to create distraction, the cheating fucks.

That's also the year when the Red Sox became Yankees Lite: all the arrogance, with a fraction of the success.
Oddly, I do remember your being a RS fan at some point. Lots of pissing matches going on during that series. The Byrd story, the Indians bringing in one of Beckett's former girlfriends to sing the anthem. That series should have been over! Down 3-1 and piss it away??? I think I demolished a POS lamp from Pier 1 that year.

Oh, and I wanted to fucking kill Matt LaPorte for his "champaign tastes better on the road" comment

Yep. Ownership needs to wake the F up! Looks like maybe they are starting too (getting money off books) but my god that's terrible
