thought this would be an interesting study... what percentage of players contributed from each class starting with 2008... (used Rivals rankings)

2008 Class - 28 players (1 5-star, 2 4-stars, 20 3-stars, 5 2-stars)

Players that contributed significantly: 13 (46%)

star break down:

5-Star: 1 for 1 (100%)
4-Star: 1 for 2 (50%)
3-Star: 10 for 20 (50%)
2-Star: 1 for 5 (20%)

2009 Class - 20 (5 4-Star, 15 3-Star)

Players that contributed significantly: 13 (65%)

star break down:

4-Star: 3 for 5 (60%) [Cody Green counted even though he transferred... started 4 games)
3-Star: 10 for 15 (67%)

2010 Class - 22 (8 4-Star, 10 3-Star, 3 2-Star, 1 NR)

Players that contributed significantly: 11 (45%)

star break down:

4-Star: 4 for 8 (50%)
3-Star: 5 for 10 (50%)
2-Star: 1 for 3 (33%)
NR: 1 for 1 (100%)

2011 Class - 20 (11 4-Star, 7 3-Star, 2 2-Star) Note: this class analysis contains projections of playing time

Players that (will) contributed significantly: 11 (55%)

star break down

4-Star: 5 for 11 (45%)
3-Star: 5 for 7 (71%)
2-Star: 1 for 2 (50%)

Obviously this means each recruiting class will be about a 40-55% success. Interesting...

the biggest eye opener to me is that 4-stars don't seem to ever hit the potential that was seen in them in HS. I'd think they should be closer to 75%. I'd think with the way Bo is supposedly looking for the "right" type of guys, he'd get guys that want to work hard and bust their butts to be better players, not sure how we could only be getting 50% of our best recruits on the field.

Then again, some of these guys just get higher numbers because of location, while 3 stars are just as good, just not in those heavily recruited areas.

It would be interesting to see this against some other schools.

I truly think this is the fault of the coaching staff (4 star recruits). Even at that level of talent it's as if the coaching staff is saying--"why aren''t you learning, you're a 4 star recruit. You know better."

Especially with defensive players--"Keep It Simple Stupid"--KISS.

I would actually say that the percentages are on par with most major universities. On average about 60-70 percent of 5-stars make significant contributions... somewhere between 45-55 percent of 4-stars and then your' looking at 30-50 percent of 3-stars.

The reason you want to load up with 4 and 5-star talent in every class that instead of only 5 or 6 4-stars getting on the field you're looking at 10-12... that makes the talent level much different if you catch my drift. Imagine if we had 20 four stars... with 10 making significant contributions, that's almost one whole side of the ball full of physical freaks.

From the looks of it, it does seem that we are getting more projected talent as the years progress. I do say projected in that nobody knows how a player will develop once they get to college. It's the same in the Pros. I think it comes down to developing the players that are recruited. They are offered a scholarship for a reason. The coaches saw something in these players and they need to build on it. If the player doesn't want to develop, then he's not honoring his end of the bargain and should be shown the door. Sounds rough, but there has to be some accountability on the player's part too. If the player feels that he's not getting the coaching that he desires, he can transfer to another school. This is a two-way street in my opinion. If a player is injured and can't perform due to injury, then that's a totally different issue.

So, should we be stock piling talent or what? :laugh3:

Sometime late last night the site was being slow and messed up

The staff just need to get more top talent, so when some bust or peak other can step in. Uga n LSU lost 9-11 guys put money on it that they have more talent waiting to spin.

Recruit to the max...you can never have enough lol sorry that the secheat motto

Some of the issue is that the coaches don't project well... the kids come one campus and do everything that's asked of them but just don't pan out. That's an evaluation issue.

True statement, Nut. It's hard to believe the Bo can't properly evaluate what he's looking for. I mean, for a coach to land a position as head coach at a school like Nebraska, it's baffling to think that he can't figure out what talents he needs for his team. I guess the proof is in the pudding with the product on the field.
