A useful idiot.
I got some very unfortunate news yesterday. One of my good friends committed suicide. I've had friends and family members pass before, but never a friend I was this close to, and certainly not in this way.
We've lived a great distance from each other for several years now. We talked a little over a month ago and he was going to come visit. He'd been having some issues with drinking/drugs and I felt good after talking to him b/c he seemed like he was turning a corner with it. I called him back a couple times and left message but didn't hear back from him. I didn't know it at the time, but that last time he called, he was calling to say goodbye.
So... just as a reminder. Take stock of who is around you and family and friends. Think of someone that is struggling or maybe that you just haven't talked to in a long time and get in touch. Make sure they know you are there. Such a little thing, but it can be so big.
