This season. After these playoffs. His son plays for Miami and he's always said it's important to him to get to see him play. I'm sure that's just one of many things, but that was one of the big ones. Many doubted he'd actually do it, but after about week 4 this always felt like it would be his last season.

Jason La Canfora: So Ray Lewis says he'll retire at end of the season. And as I've been reporting Ed Reed could be gone too. Sun could be last game for both

Albert Breer:

Text from one observer on how Ray Lewis delivered the news to the team: "Unreal. Very inspiring. There's no one like him, man."

Heard from some1 in the room that Ray Lewis talked about playing for each other, the bond, then just dropped the retirement news on the team

From Trey Wingo

@wingoz: The 3 linebackers taken ahead of Ray Lewis in 1996? Kevin Hardy #2 to Jacksonville, John Mobley #15 to Denver, Reggie Brown #17 to the Lions

It'd be crazy if he could play long enough to play his son.... That can't possibly have EVER happened. Right?

He's a goddamned murderer who should be in jail.

Its amazing how people forget this part

I don't know about that, as I've heard stories saying/showing/claiming he's innocent (or at least not the killer, he could be guilty of other things) - but since I have other players I like, that's enough that he wouldn't break a tie. I know being accused is not the same as being guilty. So maybe it's unfair for me, but he doesn't know me and doesn't care what I think or anybody else, really. But football and leadership and community stuff, I respect his game, skills, and charity.

This is what I figured he'd do. This is the right time for him to walk away IMO.

Wouldn't be surprised if Reed follows suit.

Agreed. They should go out together.

I saw this on Steve Czaban's twitter and thought it was pretty damn interesting:
