Romeo, get a clue. The Rangers are in first place and have been for most of the year. They are on pace to draw 3 million fans to the Ballpark and you want a community bitch fest over the manager. Not going to happen. You work for Rangers media you support the team regardless or you get fired. Sports writers can question line ups all they want but it's the bottom line that matters. Winning. Always has been, always will be. Nobody is going to share your point of view concerning Washington till it's warranted and it's just not right now.

Really? No one shares my opinion of Washington? That's not what I'm seeing on this board. Sounds like you're the one who needs to get a clue.

yes, the rangers are in first place, but anytime you can upgrade a position or the lineup then you should do it. i do understand the clubhouse aspect of the decision is risky though

August is the month that good teams deploy the full capabilities of its entire 25-man roster ... spreading the wear and tear if nothing more.

Would rather find out the full talent of a Craig Gentry, Mitch Moreland, and Mike Olt in August than have to turn to them in last September and find out that their lack of work leaves them missing the timing they need to be effective ... for the team to win.

The other night I really think Wash was really surprised that Olt came through ... after giving the hottest hitter over the past month the job of dropping down a bunt. Wash has gotten to the point where he actually believes the young guys will fail and needs to stick with his failing veterans and not recognizing they are stinking it up.

Why are we seeing the same lineup every night? It makes zero sense to wear your team out in August. Zero.

Dude, just shut up!!! Sound logic has no place in Wash's clubhouse.

The MY, Olt, Gentry line up fiasco is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Sitting Olt while playing MY day after day is just dumb. No getting around that. Personally, I don't buy into the theory that the clubhouse will go into a tizzy if MY starts grabbing some pine. Nobody in the right mind can justify Young hitting 6th and playing everyday while better players either DH or sit. Putting him at 1st base and DHing Moreland makes no sense.
However, they continue to maintain a big lead in the division and win and as long as that happens nothing is going to change concerning the FOF.
Aside from this, blaming Wash for everything under the sun that goes wrong in Rangerland is just not very smart in most cases.

^^^ well said.

That said, to those wanting Wash gone/"upgraded".... who are you going to replace him with right now? (that would be considered an upgrade)

And no, it wouldnt be Maddox that replaces Wash... it would be Jackie Moore IMO.

Since Ben & Skin started this whole thing.... and since Wash is on the show today... I'll be interested to see if they have the balls to ask Wash the "good" questions today.

Jackie Moore is a much smarter baseball man than Wash.

not going to argue with anyone's point of view but it's funny how we used to gripe about how bad the Rangers were and how we wished they would turn it around and now they have and we haven't stopped griping.

Who would be happy about a team with a manager who doesn't put the best team out every day that gives you the best chance to win. Especially when the evidence is so damning.

Please no. We want educated opinions. Seriously, we can do better than "Adam Wainwright is the Cardinals' worst starter".

Not able to listen on line ... what were the questions and Wash's answers?

Manager sticking by Michael Young - Dallas Texas Rangers Blog - ESPN Dallas

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington reiterated on Wednesday that he’s not benching veteran Michael Young. Washington was asked on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM’s Ben and Skin Show about Young, who has not had a day off since June 10 and is hitting .269 with three homers and 45 RBIs in 112 games.

“I plan to give Michael Young a day off, but as far as discussing benching Michael Young and all of this stuff, that’s not what’s on my mind,” Washington said. “I feel like for the past 11 years he’s been a devoted baseball player to the Texas community and now that he’s struggling a little bit, we’re going to jump off the ship? I’m not.”

Washington was asked if he’d consider playing rookie Mike Olt more. Olt is 3-for-10 with four RBIs in his short stint in the big leagues since getting called up on Aug. 1.

“We’re in a pennant race, so we’re trying to win ballgames and put the best team we have on the field,” Washington said. “Of course he’s not having the type of year that people are used to see Michael Young have. If you play this game long enough, there will be periods in your career where things don’t go the way you want them to go. So all of a sudden you take an about-face and throw him to the trash? Well, Ron Washington is not doing that.”

Washington said many factors go into how he chooses who plays on any given day beyond just statistics and matchups.

“You look at the personnel we have and the club I put out there, are the guys that are sitting on the bench, are they better than what I have out there?” Washington said. “It’s not only numbers on the field, it’s the presence, it’s how you make your teammates feel, the way the clubhouse is being run. We’re still in first place. We’re 18, 19 games above .500 and we’re talking of changes? He’s a young kid with potential and I’m going to get him as much playing time as I possibly can, but we’re in a pennant race.”

Washington said he lets a player’s career help him judge how long to stick by him.

“He has a track record,” Washington said. “That’s what I rely on. I rely on what a guy has done, how he handles failure and in failure, you teach other people how to handle failure. He’s helping other guys on this team understand how you go about your business when failing.”

Washington was asked on Ben & Skin about a few other topics:

* On why Craig Gentry hasn’t played much this month: “David Murphy is swinging the bat. We haven’t seen some lefties in a while and David Murphy is swinging the bat.” Washington said Gentry will still get time and is an important late-inning defensive replacement and a guy who can pinch-run. The club hasn’t faced a left-handed starter much this month, so once they do, look for Gentry to see more time.

* On the decision to bring Alexi Ogando into Tuesday’s game and Nick Swisher’s HR: “I’ll take the blame for this, I felt like velocity was something we could put on Swisher. He fouled off six or seven fastballs and the one he caught was high. In hindsight, I can look back and say, ‘All he had to do was slip a couple of sliders at Swisher and there would have been a difference.’ Well, he didn’t do that. I’d take Ogando in that situation right there.

“I do know the stress that Harry had earlier in the game and I was trying to try to put Ogando in a situation to get us outs in as simple a terms as I could. Ogando didn’t do the job. Since he didn’t do the job, it looks like a bad move. I was in a Catch-22. I made a decision. I take the blame for it.

* Could Jurickson Profar could come up and play three times a week (once for Kinsler, once for Andrus and once for Kinsler with Kinsler at DH and Young on bench).

Ben Rogers: “Am I out of my mind?”

Ron Washington: “Yeah. This kid played low A ball last year. He’s a talent. There’s no doubt about that. He’s experiencing right now what it’s like to have a full season at Double-A. Until we as the Texas Rangers make a decision that the kid is coming here, I think the speculation is way out of line. This kid should concentrate on playing baseball at Double-A and not reading that he’s coming to the major leagues.”

Washington said that Profar would be in those discussions, but he doesn’t want the youngster thinking about any of that.

"He's helping other guys on this team understand how you go about your business when failing".

Wow. I'm so glad we have MY to teach our young players what it's like to suck and how to handle it. Because the one thing our team needs right now in a PENNANT RACE is to have someone "failing" in the lineup every day so that our other players will have a better grip on sucking too.

I'm afraid that we're all just going to have to accept that as long as Wash is running the team (which he will be for a while) MY will be an everyday fixture in the lineup. It's clear from the complete lack of logic in everything that Wash just said that he will find any excuse possible to play him. "He has a proven track record". Yeah, so does Nolan Ryan. Maybe he should be starting for us then too. Using past results instead of an entire current season's worth when judging a declining veteran's role one the team is always smart.

and whose call is it on what constitutes the best team? is it ours or is it who the ownership and GM have designated to make those decisions? you say the evidence is damning and maybe it is and maybe it isn't. i understand and probably agree with 85-90% of what you say but do you actually believe that they are going to change horses in the middle of the race?

Sigh.

Interesting that neither Murphy yesterday when questioned or Wash today gave examples of what MY was doing to rally the guys in the clubhouse or help out others as examples of MY's leadership. I get the feeling that despite their record and place in the standings that it is a pretty quiet clubhouse most nights before the game.

Fact is Murphy isn't performing very well in addition to Young ... and I can't understand the loyalty to 'veterans' when Gentry was so hot against not only LHP but hotter than Murphy against RHP too.

Makes absolutely no sense.
