On Colby: No wonder. He’s finally been able to throw bullpen sessions between starts, which has allowed pitching coach Mike Maddux to help him make an adjustment to get his body more in line on the path to the plate. As a result, Lewis has no residual soreness at the back of his elbow, which was a result of throwing “across his body.

On Alfaro: On Monday, the Rangers promoted catcher Jorge Alfaro to Double-A Frisco to join home run prodigy Joey Gallo, who was promoted last month. Neither, however, is expected to be a factor for the big league team this year. And, despite the Rangers’ willingness in the past to promote players straight to the majors from Double-A, neither is expected to be a factor at the outset of 2015, either.

“Jorge has done a good job slowing things down and separating his at-bats from his defense,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. “He’s worked hard at handling the staff and the responsibility that comes with it. He still has a lot of work to do, but we felt the environment in Frisco and the quality pitching they have is the best spot to continue that work right now.”

On Carp: Carp is essentially auditioning for the part of “Mitch Moreland.” Just a less expensive one.

He will be used in what amounts to a platoon with right-handed hitting J.P. Arencibia. Not only will it give the Rangers the opportunity to look at Carp, but also to see if Arencibia’s reworked swing can hold up when he doesn’t play every day.

Its going to be interesting to see if Mazara is ready for the jump to AA.

There was a quote by the Rangers, and it seems like it was something to the effect of, "don't hold back superior talent." It was said much better than this. But I think that's what it meant.

Don't know about Mazara, and neither does the team. But I think the Rangers are willing to let the very talented one's determine there own level, and not be the type of team who forces the "X # of games at this level before you can go to X at the next" formula.

I knew as soon as the top of the 7th was over that they would call the game. I wasn't even mad.

You could smell that all the way from Dallas/Ft Worth couldn't you?

It was raining hard enough - at least it looked it on TV - have the field covered when it was 3-3. But in fairness, I don't blame the umps at all.

The jump from High A to AA is considered one of the biggest jumps in talent, much less Low A to AA, it'll be interesting

19 HRs, 73 RBIs & 57 walks in 398 ABs in Low A is awesome

.264 average and 99 Ks (20-25% K rate) are a bit troubling at such a low level

But he has lowered that K rate every year thus far (repeated low A this past year, still only 19)

My guess is they accellerated him some because he plays OF, primarily RF and we seem short handed at the higher levels right now including the big league team. Even more so if we lose Rios.

Choice @ AAA, Mazara, possibily Gallo (don't see him having a future at 3B) @ AA, Brinson, Williams @ high A and Beras @ low A

OF looks good for 2016-2020... at least if 2 of those guys eventually pan out

Right, notice if you include Mazara most are at A ball and Choice has some work to do at Gallo has not really played there. I like much we have at those lower levels so far.

love the quirk in the schedule..playing the White Sox (yesterday) 21 years to the day of the Nolan Ryan mauling of Ventura. One of my all-time favorite Rangers memories.

Just checked the weather and it looks like tonight will be cloudy and quite cool (60's). But the chance of rain is low so maybe we can play 9 anyway.

Thats why I said 2016 as the arrival time for most of these guys

Not to mention we will still have Choo in the mix more than likely, maybe Martin (though I could see him getting bumped by Brinson eventually)

I think my iPad was speaking another language on my post or I was. Your probably right about the timing. Will be interesting to really see what these guys look like as they move up to AA and on. Some may be trade chips along the way.

I just wanna see Colby look good tonight. That will still likely mean a 4-3 loss in the long run, but that's okay.

Come on anybody for me. Although you're probably closer to right in that the Pirates have at least an immediate, although perhaps short time, need.

Getting lots of conflicting info on Mc today. I think it's a smoke screen.

He has a fractured rib but he's not on the DL as of yet.

Is that the official notice? I heard/read strained oblique earlier today.

Can't imagine they don't put him on the 15 day DL if there's a fracture.
