I think last night was part of a process Wash is using to better align the offense. Cruz responded well to the move to #5 ... but if Young does not respond in #6 spot I could forsee TEX moving him down to #7.

Might make sense to limit Hamilton to DH and play Murphy in LF as the standard alignment at #6. When Moreland returns he and Young/Snyder/Napoli would platoon at 1b at #7 ... with the catching spot at #8 and CF platoon hitting #9.

In any case ... might have been tough for Wash to move Young to #7 outright ... and is giving him the chance to show he can perform at #6 or be moved down to #7 (which is where the 1b platoon would hit anyway).

Wash was quoted in the Dallas MN today saying that if Hamilton hadn't started he would have put Young batting in the #3 position. Surely, this is just talk to ease the painful but eventual transition to the lower part of the order.

If not now... then someday fairly soon.

The thing is ... doesn't matter where Young hits ... it's the same. It's the same always no matter where he hits.

Wash puts anybody else other than Young in the #3 spot that guy is going to leave a hole where he is hitting now ... and is going to mess up what he does at the plate in order to try and bat like that guy thinks a #3 should bat. With Young in the #3 ... see there isn't really an unfillable hole where he left ... plus Young isn't going to require any period of adjustment.

On top of that ... Wash telling one of the brilliant local media types what he would have done had Hamilton not DH'd ... is the perfect kind of question that all baseball managers love to get from the press. He can say anything he wants and get away with it. Only people who expect him to tell the truth there is the press ... and those who think the press ask good questions and get good answers.

All the other baseball managers in the world I am sure laughed. For now Young hits #6 ... but I'm with you ... I think he ends up moving to #7 behind Murphy so ... you know ... TEX can split up all those RH bats.

Am sure Young will be happy making the changes in his batting style to adjust from #6 to #7. Might be the last change he has to accommodate.
