Harry now has his era below 3.00.

If Harry finishes the season with 20 wins and a sub 3.00 era does he have a legitimate shot at the cy young?

I sure hope L.Martinez gets a chance to show something. Watching yorvitt at the plate is like watching paint dry.

regarding MY's defense, the last 2 nights he has shown his ineptitude defensively costing the rangers dearly. on friday he was bailed out big time by horrible baserunning. the rangers have to pick up a solid right handed bat off the bench that can play 1B/3B. not that it would work, but a mark reynolds type who i think at this point in his career is turning into more of a rotational player because of his K's. he might be to pricey though, although the rangers and O's have been frequent trade partners over the last couple of season. and i'm sure the oriole brass knows deep down that they arent going to do anyhting this year, especially with hammel going down

just for shits and giggles, mark reynolds for scheppers and engel beltre. some of you might not want to give up on scheppers, but there is still a lot of pop in reynolds bat that could be a high reward return

Wouldn't matter. Haven't you gotten the memo? MY plays 1b for TEX most nights. Reynolds would just sit on the bench ... like Snyder does. In any case ... did you notice BAL is currently one of the AL WC teams? Reynolds isn't going anywhere. And on top of that ... Reynolds is not exactly Gil Hodges.

so far, but as i mentioned in my previous post, you have to think that oriole brass deep down knows they arent going to beat out the rays, redsox, tigers, or angels (as it stands right now) for potential wild card spots. it would make sense for them to get young, talented pitching in return and an outfielder with upside.

Not sure why we pay that price for a guy hitting .202

I'm all for giving Martinez a shot as we already have him, but I'm not willing to trade resources to marginally upgrade the backup catcher position

Best cheap shot of upgrading the backup C is to give Martinez all the work between now and whenever Napoli gets back. See how he does.

We don't need to see what YT can do ... we already know. Give Luis Martinez the work in OAK ... and then decide. YT can always pick his torrid .189 .231 .243 .474 pace over the past 4 weeks down the road.

It's not like sitting him in favor of Martinez is going to cool YT off.

Agreed. Let Napoli sit for a few days and let him get his head right.

Lord knows he should've had time off during the AS break, but people don't always vote with their head

Naps was given the vote due to his performance in the second half last season. It was nice to see that rewarded.

Justify it how you want, but Napoli being elected is exactly whats wrong with the All-Star game

It's no more wrong than all the undeserving Yankees and red sox getting starts for how many years?

AS voting is a joke. It has very little tie to actual quality performance.

Supposed to be based on performance season to date ... not for the second half ... or for a ongoing "lifetime achievement award". Napoli would have been better off taking the time off to go to the TEX facility in AZ and just work on simple things.

Did I say that? Its the same principle, I'm just also applying it to a Ranger

ASG is a total waste. Only event that appeals to me any more is the Futures Game.

TAG's commentary this afternoon was a low point for me. "How to make the ASG more attractive to the players... " ... the envelopes with $25K in them. Then he said "it wasn't always this way" ... and as he said it I had a vision of Pete Rose slamming into Ray Fosse at the plate ... and then he related the very example I remembered.

That was back when the ASG actually meant something to the guys honored to be selected to play.

Now we end up with Justin Verlander throwing batting practice. Friend of ours here got tickets for him and his son to drive up from Little Rock to KC for the game. He came back telling us what a sham it was ... totally circus of a game ... waste of his time and vacation and the cost. Only thing that was worthwhile was the drive up and back with his 12yo son.

Torrealba will not play in the Oakland series as his wife is expecting a child

True ... but it sounded like while Napoli originally was projected to not return until the LAA series ... then yesterday Emily Jones (Napoli's personal publicist) said he would be ready for Tuesday.

Maybe Napoli sits for OAK as a backup or DH's (with Snyder the emergency catcher) and Martinez gets to start. That would make me very happy. But if TEX starts Napoli ... then my frustration over the catching situation will just get higher.
