It appears that we have base runners who either do not pay attention to the game or pay no attention to their coaches. Either way this is a major problem that has to be corrected and the buck stops on Banister's desk. Stupid is stupid do.....Forest Gump
The stupidity on the base paths has been going on for a number of years here. But back in 2010-2011 we had some legitimate speed and made some things happen in a positive way. This team is not a speed team and instead we are making things happen in a negative way. Some of this stuff we are seeing this year is such common sense that it boggles the mind how these guys can't seem to figure that out.

Our offense thinks it is in Chicago playing the White Sox.

This series is all about base running. The worst one was Delino going from first to second and getting tagged out before Mitch scored the run going home.

Alberto's was at least equally bad, that's completely not knowing the situation, much like Deshields' mistake

Ive seen LL teams with better knowledge/execution of base running fundamentals

Josh Donaldson? Nelson Cruz? Jake Arrieta? Nonetheless they are starting to nail them at quite the rate for the moment, more coming.

Report: MLB will soon announce another PED suspension
By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

May 4, 2016 11:28 am ET

T.J. Quinn of ESPN's Outside the Lines reports that MLB is expected to announce soon that another player has been suspended for failing a PED test. Quinn writes:

Major League Baseball is expected to announce in the next few days that another player has tested positive for the steroid Turinabol, a drug that was commonly used by East German athletes in the 1970s. The positive test is one of a handful being processed, two sources familiar with the cases told Outside the Lines, meaning it's all but certain that more announcements will follow.
Quinn's story has more, including how improved testing procedures may have led to this recent spate of suspensions.

This report of course comes not long after MLB suspended Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon for 80 games as a result of his testing positive for two banned substances. Dodgers reliever Josh Ravin recently became the sixth big-leaguer to be suspended in 2016.

In the spring of 2014, players and owners agreed to revisions to the punitive phase of the Joint Drug Agreement. Now, first time offenders are suspended 80 games, second-timers for 162 games, and third-timers receive a lifetime ban. In February, reliever Jenrry Mejia became the first player to receive a lifetime ban for violation of the Joint Drug Agreement.

Dee Gordon may have been just been the first significant name to get busted for PEDs this season.

1 CHC.png They still haven't lost two in a row. I don't think they manage to stay here at number one all season, but I'd be interested to see anyone earnestly attempt to make a case for a different team (as of May 4).
2 CHW.png After the 2014 season, Mat Latos was traded to the Marlins and complained about the Reds on his way out the door. He was sub-par for the Marlins and dealt to the Dodgers. He was terrible with the Dodgers and discarded. He was bad for the Angels. Then as a free agent, he sat and waited. And waited. And signed a one-year deal usually reserved for replacement level starters. Depth pieces at best. He's now 4-0 with a 1.84 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through five starts -- and he's been their third-best starter.
3 WAS.png In a perpetual state of "haven't proven anything" through April, the Nats just swept the Cardinals -- but now everyone is questioning the Cardinals. Splitting games with the struggling Royals might not impress, either. So what can they Nationals do? Well, a four-game series in Wrigley Field looms, starting Thursday. If they win the series against the Cubs, people have to stop naysaying, right? RIGHT?
4 NYM.png They've won 14 of their last 18 and yet, the Mets sit with the third best record in the NL and in second place.
5 SEA.png After a dreadful start, Kyle Seager is now 6 for his last 15 (.400) with three doubles, two homers and seven RBI in his last four games. And the Mariners have won 10 of their last 13.
6 TEX.png Scrap-heap pickup A.J. Griffin is 3-0 with a 2.32 ERA through five starts. He previously hadn't pitched in the majors since 2013. Quite a grab there, Jon Daniels.
7 BAL.png With a questionable rotation (4.62 ERA entering Wednesday), losing J.J. Hardy's glove for even as little as a month is gonna leave a mark. Crazy, semi-serious (OK, not serious at all but still fun) idea: Just let the great Manny Machado cover the entire left side of the infield and use the extra defender elsewhere.

Probably playing it safe more than anything, groins can be tricky better to sit now than be hurt when/if we need him later in the season

I hope you're right. But it went from a one-week injury to 4 weeks pretty quick.

I've been out a lot over the past 8 days or so, so if this has been covered, sorry to be behind the curve.

But, why was it necessary for us to trade for Bobby Wilson? Is he, with his 8 year career avg of .203, that much better a receiver than what we currently are dealing with?

And when is Chirinos expected back?

Welcome back pardner. I can't answer your questions but why the catcher concern I don't get. That seems mote with the problems else where. Examples: base running, bp, Fielder, low offense production etc.

I think the moves were made to have some depth in case of more injuries. I don't think they were gonna be able to send Chris Gimenez to RR, so in moving him, they needed to add a catcher that could be sent to the minors, thus adding Wilson. Just speculating on the moves but other than this, they don't make too much sense to me. More below though

Rangers' Robinson Chirinos: Could begin rehab assignment soon
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Chirinos (forearm) could begin a rehab assignment in a little over a week if an MRI on Tuesday shows healing, David Sessions of MLB.com reports.

Chirinos' rehab assignment figures to last a bit longer than a typical assignment might due to the rigors of the catching position, but it appears he's ahead of schedule after suffering the injury less than four weeks ago.

Rangers' Chris Gimenez: Designated for assignment Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Chris Gimenez (ankle) was designated for assignment Tuesday, Texas Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake reports.

Texas acquired fellow catcher Bobby Wilson from Detroit on Tuesday, so they had to make a corresponding move to clear space on the club's 40-man roster. Gimenez has been battling an infection in his ankle since before the start of the season but has since begun a rehab assignment. With the depth behind the plate at the major league level, it's possible Gimenez remains in the minors even when he's healthy enough to return.

Rangers' Bobby Wilson: Traded to Texas Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Wilson was acquired by the Rangers for Chad Bell on Tuesday.

Wilson had signed a minor league deal with the Rangers in December, but was traded to the Tigers near the end of spring training for Bryan Holaday. With Holaday struggling at the dish this season, hitting just .154/.233/.179 through 13 games, the Rangers decided to pull the trigger and reacquire Wilson. Detroit also activated James McCann from the 15-day DL on Tuesday, and between him and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, they no longer have a need for Wilson's services. Wilson will join the Rangers on Wednesday and a corresponding roster move will be made at that time. This trade is beneficial to Wilson's playing time, but his fantasy value is still limited as he hasn't hit above .200 in a full season since 2012.

Rangers' Bryan Holaday: Not in lineup Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Bryan Holaday is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Texas Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake reports.

Holaday has continued to struggle at the plate, as he's batting just .154 and will once again make way for Brett Nicholas to start at catcher. Texas acquired fellow catcher Bobby Wilson via a trade earlier Tuesday, further signaling that Holaday may have lost his grip on the starting role with Robinson Chirinos sidelined.

Rangers' Chris Gimenez: Traded to Indians
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Chris Gimenez was traded to the Indians on Wednesday for cash considerations, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

After designating Gimenez for assignment Tuesday, the Texas Rangers were able to find a trade partner to get something in return for the veteran catcher. Gimenez has not played yet this season due to an infected ankle, but he has played in minor league games as part of his rehab assignment. The Indians DFA'd fellow catcher Adam Moore to clear a spot on the roster for Gimenez, so it's clear that they intend on him serving as Yan Gomes' backup behind the plate.
