I think the moves were made to have some depth in case of more injuries. I don't think they were gonna be able to send Chris Gimenez to RR, so in moving him, they needed to add a catcher that could be sent to the minors, thus adding Wilson. Just speculating on the moves but other than this, they don't make too much sense to me. More below though

Thanks Murph.....So are you thinking they send both Holaday and Nicholas down and keep Wilson/Chirinos up when health allows?

It seems odd to me that our starting pitching, for the most part, have pitched well too both the youngsters while our BP has struggled.

Welcome back pardner. I can't answer your questions but why the catcher concern I don't get. That seems mote with the problems else where. Examples: base running, bp, Fielder, low offense production etc.

Thanks DT. I've seen a lot of games, just computer access was limited.

But Murph gave a pretty plausible explanation to the catching situation.

But like you, my concerns lie elsewhere, i.e. base running. Speaking of, heard this morning we are leading the league in outs made on the base paths, which surely can't come as much of a surprise to anyone can it?

No surprise at all. So many problems and we're playing fruit basket turn over.

Not sure how they see it but Im for sending Wilson and Holaday to RR when Chirinos is healthy and keeping Brett up w the big league club. That probably doesnt help him develop and limits his playing time but I think Nicholas has earned it with his bat, just needs to work on his receiving

Another amusing little tid bit on the power rankings article was this one:

Only five years and $140 million left on Albert Pujols' deal after this season. He'd probably get that on the open market, though, right? RIGHT?

Got no problem with this one.

I like Nicholas, but he'll be better served to go down and work on his overall game IMO.

What is the advantage of having Wilson over Giminez? Seems like a wash to me.

Lets send the guy performing the best back down? I know he could use some more reps but, Holaday hasn't been good offensively and Wilson has sucked w the bat too. I always thought the objective was to win games, and that is usually best served by putting the best players on the field

I think Chris was slightly better but not sure they could continue to option him, without him having to clear waivers each time. Either way you're right its really kind of a wash as each is not really even a decent backup option. I guess you can win games with a hole in the lineup, Texas has done it so far with a hole in the 4 spot most of the year

I just looked up the offensive numbers and much to my surprise, Wilson's productivity is considerably higher than Giminez.

From a defensive standpoint I'm not so sure. But didn't Darvish prefer throwing to Giminez over Chirinos?

MORE RUA

Rangers' Delino DeShields Jr.: Out of the lineup Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Delino DeShields is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

DeShields' poor base running on Monday cost the Texas Rangers a run in a game they eventually lost by one. He's hitting just .239 on the season with a home run and six RBI. While he does have three stolen bases, he's also been caught three times while striking out in nearly 30 percent of his at-bats. He's replaced by Ryan Rua in the lineup on Wednesday.

Rangers' Ryan Rua: Starting in left field Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Ryan Rua is back in the lineup, batting eighth and playing left field, for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Rua hasn't seen much of the field lately, making just two starts in the past week. His ability to play both corner outfield spots plus first base will get him at-bats here and there, but he's blocked at all three positions. He's hitting .278 on the year and will replace Delino DeShields Jr. on Wednesday while Ian Desmond slides over to center field.

Rangers' Brett Nicholas: Optioned to Triple-A Round Rock
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Brett Nicholas was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Nicholas the backup catcher, was getting regular playing time, making two consecutive starts on Monday and Tuesday and was on a five-game hitting streak. However, with three catchers on the roster, Nicholas was optioned down to give Bobby Wilson a spot.

Murph-I am with you on this one. I would rather see Nicholas stay and Holaday/Wilson sent down. But from what I have seen lately is that anyone we trade or pick up is playing over anyone we have been bringing up thru the minors. Fielder, Holaday and now Wilson just to name a few and Desmond when he couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag. I like Desmond in the lineup now but at the time we all though Rua should be playing more and giving Desmond a break It's a good thing we did not trade for an additional RFer to be on the roster I really do not get the Wilson thing myself.

Bobby Wilson over Nicholas is a mistake, Nicholas has been killing it with the bat (especially for a catcher) and I don't think his catching is all that bad

Would rather keep Holyday and Nicholas for the time being, a trade wasn't even necessary, especially for Bobby Wilson
