I had a response and then thought better of it. Didn't want to leave myself open to mockery.

That didn't work out so well.

I was going to edit the post.

Well now I'm intrigued.

I was going to say that I'd send DDJ down before I send Mazara, but then I remembered he had that Rule 5 status and wasn't sure if sending him down was even an option.

That rule only applied to last year. I believe we can option him this year. That said, who is your backup CF if you send DDJ down?

Does DDJ provide enough of a benefit in CF to justify taking Rua off the 25 man?
I'd say you can't teach speed, but then again, nobody outruns the baseball.

It's been said the easiest position in the outfield is center...nice problem to have

Imo, yes. That said, here's another option that may open me to mockery.

Option Alberto to Round Rock. Desmond can fill in at SS when needed. Rua can play 3B, 2B, and 1b. DeShields stays on as a backup OF.

Not saying I'm all in on this idea, but it's a different option.

If I'm putting money on it, my bet is that Mazara goes to AAA when Choo comes back.

I agree, and I also think Maz should stay in right and move Choo to left. I expect we'll have to live with the adventure of Ian in center

I have a feeling there will be little to no change with Maz LF vs RF, but Choo has already shown him to be a nightmare in LF and took forever to not look like a joke in RF, now he is just regular bad

Mazara's arm plays better in RF i get it, but overall I think the defense suffers greatly with Choo in LF

I don't think Desmond is any worse than Deshields in CF and has a much better arm

The problem with every guy being discussed is they serve a rational purpose,

Rua is RHed, provides a platoon partner for potentially Moreland, Fielder and even Maz, and plays all the corners and possibly 2B in a pinch

Alberto is your backup SS, I just don't see them yo-yoing Desmond back and forth from the OF if they plan on him learning the position

Deshields is a speed guy in CF, and provides value as a leadoff hitter, even with his struggles his OBP is .330, he really just needs to cut down on the Ks and the baserunning blunders

Maz is Maz and everyone knows that

I'm thinking they look at it as a learning experience and that he probably found out he has a couple things to work on in AAA and hopefully he gets back up real soon, the chance is there especially with Deshields and Rua being real wild cards, and Choo and Moreland always injury questions

I mean, he only got called when he did because Choo got hurt. Surely he won't even need to be told "look kid, you'll be back incredibly soon. Go down there and rake."

I don't think Desmond is worse than Deshields neither but I think certain fly balls will still be turned into an adventure...particularly the ball smashed right at him over his head. I expect it...and I could be wrong as most of you seem to think Maz is going down. I just don't see it at the level he's playing. Now should he slump for any extended amount of time? Sure...but I think this kid is that advanced as a player and stays in right field.
