The Rangers hope outfielder Lewis Brinson can return from the disabled list at High Desert in about 10 days. Brinson, the 29th overall choice in the 2012 draft, has been out since April 29 because of a tendon problem in the right hamstring.

The Rangers put Blanks on the disabled list because of a pilonidal cyst. The club brought back outfielder Jake Smolinski from Triple-A Round Rock to replace Blanks.

A pilonidal cyst is located near the base of the tailbone. It is more common in men and is usually caused by an ingrown hair. Blanks can return on June 4.

It's surprising only from the standpoint of "why was he back with us to begin with?" I understand that the guy is big, strong, still relatively young (28), throws quite hard, and has decent stuff. But for a decade he hasn't been able to excel at any level, and yet we kept investing time and more time into the black hole known as Michael Kickham (for ESPN purposes). Don't get it.

And everyone remember, today's game is a noon start time.
