Tolley and Chirinos I should say. Cruz never would have been on board had Chirinos blocked that 3rd strike and the inning likely would have gone differently.

Doesn't work that way. You can't just "take away their 3 worst starts". His worst starts still count. They resulted in ugly losses. That's part of what you get with him.

And you act like we're basing our opinions of Derek on just this season. His CAREER ERA is 4.3 with a 1.32 WHIP, and that includes his best years. What part of those career numbers and his numbers so far this year lead you to believe he will be anything other than what he's been for the last 5 years?
The 2 losses he had earlier this year are not what you get out of him though. Not usually. They were an aberration. Going back through his starts I don't think you can find anything like the one and very few games like the other one.

The part of his career that gives me hope is what he has done since he became a full time starter and especially since he turned 25. He had had 2 bad stretches since that time prior to this year. He had a bad 8-10 games or so in 2012 when he had a very bad illness where he lost about 15-20 pounds. Once he fully recovered from that and before that happened that year he pitched okay. His numbers from last year were bad and I attribute that to his shoulder injury and maybe pushing it too hard when he came back.

If he indeed is healthy then I think he will be fine. He has been injured twice and suffered the bad sickness, but 2 of those things were flukes and he has really only had one pitching related injury over these last few years. I could very well be wrong. I just think if he had never had that shoulder injury last year then we would see that he really put his career together after he reached the age of 25. I am willing to wait and give him sufficient time after the injury to see what we have in him. Maybe he will never fully recover, but I think it is too early to write his career off as disappointing.

Can we put Chirinos back on the DL? Or at least stash him in the minors until he remembers how to play again? I was fine with Wilson and Holaday.

It's what people do to rationalize the defense of disappointing players.
Or they do it to find out what is happening outside of aberrations.

I've seen enough of Tolly. There is no reason he shouldn't be in Round Rock working on his game.

Half of our bullpen is as good as it gets, and half is a total dumpster fire. We have the 2nd worst bullpen ERA in the entire league.

we have to add depth now

I wouldnt have automatically inserted him while the other options were performing well

Coming into the season, the Bullpen was thought to be out biggest strength... now it is pretty clear it is the biggest weakness. I forget now, who did we trade Freeman for and is he doing any good?
