This time it was Jon Gray, who left with right wrist tightness. He had mentioned it to trainers after the sixth inning, went to the mound to warm up for the seventh, and didn’t look comfortable. The Rangers don’t think it’s serious, but this is a team that has lost Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer and Nathan Eovaldi to injuries at different times this year. They weren’t going to push it. They may have a playoff rotation to set up. Gray would likely figure in that.

The ball was a little slicker than usual, so my grip was a little tighter and I think that caused it,” said Gray, who had allowed seven homers and 10 walks in 19.2 innings over his previous five starts. “I’m happy with way I pitched. These guys needed that from me. There is a bit of soreness, but I don’t think it’s going to throw me off track.”

Jamey Newberg has an article out about the six prospects who made the biggest jumps this year. He didn't include guys who made it to the big leagues or thise who just played in short-season leagues.

He lists 3 pitchers and 3 position players.

I wonder if they will hold Owen White back and not let him start for Round Rock this week so he can be available, just in case, to either take Jon Gray's spot, or to be in the bullpen that night.

Last night's win puts the Rangers over the win total of 87 that I had predicted for them in our preseason prediction thread. Duane had them with 89 wins and DTC said 90. At this point, I would say DTC will be closest.

Read where Scherzer is really pushing himself to possibly pitch in the playoffs. That he wasn't just flicking the ball but putting effort into it. It would be nice but we will see. One thing that I noticed when deGrom went down and not Scherzer they both really wanted to be out there pitching for the Rangers. Those guys really want to see this team win it all to the point that it is very emotional for them when they went down. The intensity they will bring to this team next year will be great to see and really rub off on the other players. And I do believe deGrom will make it all the way from the last couple of month of the season throughout the playoffs much like he did last year.
