No. 8 prospect homers twice for Wood Ducks

No. 15 prospect Tyler Phillips pitched well in his second straight six-inning outing for Double-A Frisco as he lowered his Double-A ERA below 5.00 (4.97) for the first time since May 20. Entering out of the bullpen in the second inning, after starter Edinson Volqeuz tossed a scoreless first, Phillips allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over the next six frames. The 21-year-old righty struck out three and issued two walks. After posting a 7.64 ERA over his first eight starts in Double-A, Phillips has pitched to a 3.14 ERA across his past nine outings (eight starts).

I didn't realize Tyler Phillips had pitched that well over his last 9 starts. Hopefully, a year from now, we will get to see him up here about this time of the year. He has never been that highly regarded by the national evaluators, but he seems to be talented enough, smart enough, and teachable enough to make the necessary adjustments at every level so far.

There are always so many intangibles to a player. You just do not know what a player's makeup is as far as desire/heart and then how they mature physically from the time they are drafted until they get to upper levels of the minors.

Exactly. This kid seemingly hit a wall like so many do at AA and he has found a way to get over that wall. That impresses me as much as his lower level numbers. I look forward to seeing how his intangibles help him as he continues to progress.

I’m guessing it’s a regular scheduled day off for stinker.

He's been pretty bad recently though as well
Hard to find anyone who’s doing well on this team. Even Santana has tapered off.

I like this solak kid.

So many of our hitters would’ve swung at that 2-2 pitch down and in then struck out. Hard earned walk.

Still can’t believe our brilliant front office demoted Calhoun so they could keep condor and odor up here.

:gaah::gaah:

They’ve made some great trades lately, but they really suck at managing underperforming regulars.

Solak!

You’ve got on base tonight more times than big stink has over the last 3 weeks.

Woody just couldn’t go one day without some odor.
