No More "Bullpen Failure"
From an article by Jayson Stark on The Athletic:
"Is the deadline now too early? One AL exec made a fervent plea to push back the deadline to mid-August, in a world with 12 playoff teams. Here is the case he made:"
"“I think the whole setup of the deadline has become more unusual, in that we have the extra wild-card teams now. So when the deadline arrives, we know less. So I think moving the deadline back a week, or possibly 10 days or whatever, should be a consideration."
in other words, the extra wildcards have affected deadline deals. Some years will be worse than others, but overall, it will be much different. Unfortunately, they can not move the deadline before the next labor contract, if they can agree to it then.
