That is why they need to fire Woody and hire someone on a longer term deal. That way the new manager won't be afraid to play for the future instead of just for immediate wins.
Name any manager whose job is totally secure no matter the length of their contract

To me this is still a tryout year and missed fundamentals due to lack of repetition hurts

All this is why I am not huge on call ups unless ready or helps. Definitely blocking playing time so Miller gets his reps makes no sense but then Woody wants to win what I get.
That is why there really needs to be coordination between mgr and FO on these young guys

Hoping we fill some gaps this off season and have a little more continuity and roles established next year Then no excuses on missed fundamentals
Only problem is Miller is not really helping them win. He has underperformed.

and the FO should DFA him, but they won't just like they won't DFA Calhoun either when he comes back. and Woody will stick him in the BO. we won't like it, but a manager plays every asset until that asset is removed

I heard Calhoun is taking a little bit longer than thought to get off IL

Woody does not understand this. His commitment gets in the way

You can’t not play a guy the front office is paying millions of $$ too.. I would imagine.. could be wrong..
I doubt he wants to play him

I've always had - continue to have - a HUGE problem with this take (not yours specificically), regardless of sport. And I can't comprehend it at all.

If the logic is, 'we paid him too much money for him to not play' then the logic should be, 'whomever is being paid the highest salary among the OFers then they have to play.' Obviously would apply to any and all positions. And this isn't the case; at least it doesn't seem to be.

And I hear this so much more re: the NFL than baseball.

Regardless of money invested or sport, just b/c you - the organization - decided to invest this much, doesn't make the player a better player due to the financial investment. And isn't the HC supposed to play the players who give your team the best chance of winning?

I bet Dunning has another quality start tonight. I'll say six innings, three runs allowed, five strikeouts, five hits and two walks.

complex situation... we as fans want Miller to sit so that young guys get AB's and experience. But that by itself doesn't contribute to winning games now. Not that Miller is really bringing anything to the table himself, but the young guys aren't exactly doing much consistently.

I agree totally..
It doesn’t matter how much they’re getting paid.. if they’re not performing don’t play them imo.. the payroll is what it is regardless.
I’d rather them play the young guys over Miller or Calhoun..

I was just stating how woody probably sees it or has to play it..

I don't buy that. It isn't like he is making $20 million this year.

Woody is managing for now. He has no concern for the future because he isn't hired longterm. That needs to be fixed.

Another great outing for Cody and a good one from Acker.

There isn't a manager in the game that worries about the future of a franchise when making a lineup, because that isn't their job.

that isn't their job
Their job should be defined to them when they are hired.

A rebuilding club's manager must manage differently. If they don't then either the front office or the manager or both are not worth keeping.

If the team's goal was to win as many games as possible in 2022 then the front office should have signed 3 or 4 more free agents and traded away 9 or 10 prospects for veterans so they could win as much as possible. They didn't do that because they didn't want to mortgage their future. The manager needs to manage the same way. They need to both be pulling in the same direction.

When 2022 rolls around, whoever is the manager and the FO had better be pulling in the same direction.
