De Grom was very good last night the team needed to see him be able to do that. I wonder how his body will respond to not being used to going that far???

The team also needs to limit his innings (especially if they make the playoffs) so I wonder how they'll handle him when Gray and Bradford come back???

he still only threw 96 pitches, that's the magic number not innings

Eovaldi went 7 innings, 95 pitches in his last start. i would like to see him go7-8 innings tonight and no more than 95 pitches

But we're talking De Grom...

BTW Eovaldi only pitched 111 innings and threw 1792 pitches when he came back from his second TJ...

To preserve JDG, we can pull him earlier if we get big leads and in nondivisional games.
This one was a statement game and marquee matchup
Huge game for the club

Eovaldi has thrown 31 innings in his last 5 starts so neither number is unreachable for him

That's because Eovaldi missed the first two months of that season while he was still in rehab. That means he threw about 28 innings per month that he was active. That works out to 168 innings over the course of a six month season.

Degrom is currently on pace to throw almost 200 innings. They won't let that happen. My guess is he will have a minor injury or two along the way and the innings will be reduced that way. If everything goes great and he stays healthy they will probably have him skip a start a couple of times in the second half of the season and take him out after 5 innings a few times during games where the bullpen is well rested.

Yeah I know, way too many with his history...

They won't let that happen.

I doubt they will either, CY doesn't strike me as being dumb enough to do that cause he's got $40M and another possible WS on the line. I'm guessing around 125 or so especially if the offense takes off and Bradford/Gray are doing fine...

Here you might find this interesting: Tommy John Surgery Success Rates in the Majors

And if you look at Eovaldi's return season he got pulled a lot earlier in games as the season wore on...

So I wonder exactly is the estimated innings limit for JDG? Surely he is at least doing at least 150 innings.
Maybe like said skip a start once Bradford back
Definitely need to preserve him for playoff baseball

Just thinking we can’t always baby JDG and trust him with his own arm assessment

Having Corbin has helped immensely

and in a few weeks Rocker, Gray and Bradford will be coming off the IL and suddenly we have them Eovaldi, Mahle, Leiter, Corbin and deGrom all quality or near quality starters, so we will need to do something with 2 or 3 of them. but with the way Eovaldi, Mahle, Leither, Corbin and deGrom are pitching who do you suggest we get rid of

If he stays healthy I think 125 is way too few. That means 74 more innings over 4 and a half months. That's only 16 or 17 innings per month.

You think his contract amount should demand he gets babied. I think the contract amount demands that he doesn't need to be babied.

One thing about deGrom is he is 2 years removed from surgery at this point.

None of them. We never know when one or two go on DL especially Bradford. Pur Gray in the pen and Rocker and Bradford start at AAA.

We don't need to get rid of anyone. Rocker and Leiter both have options and can spend a few weeks in the minors if need be. Others can go to the pen. Some of us believe they could give Gray a shot at a late inning job. Of course, by the time Gray and Bradford get back we may have 2 or 3 pitchers injured
