Same with the Padres. A spectacular collapse

Actually now that you mention them I don't feel as bad as I do about the Red Sox... They truly did collapse

I don't think baseball could have asked for two better wild card matchups. You have 2 teams that have been rivals for over 100 years in the Yankees and Red Sox and the 100+ win Dodgers against a team that's on a ridiculous streak. Great theater.

Very true. But I still think MLB should revisit their plan to have the WC series a best of 3 instead of a 1 and done, though I know they likely won’t anytime soon.

Agreed. The wildcards also lead into very interesting series' regardless of who wins. Giants-Dodgers and Giants-Cardinals both seem fairly marquee. Tampa getting an AL East team also leans into something marquee.

I'm just hoping the excitement at the start doesnt lead to a bad World Series because too many good teams get knocked out early.

You say that now, but you have to realize if that happens it would probably be your Cardinals that ends up knocking out all the good teams so I'm sure you could live with that.

But really all the playoff teams seem pretty good. I guess on paper the Braves are the weakest but I think they could do some damage since they don't have to do the one game playoff. They don't have a Scherzer but they have a top 3 starters that are very good so they can stay in games. And after some trade deadline pickups they have tons of power.

I mean, yeah. I just dont want to face the two best teams in baseball just to get to the NLCS.

That said, I probably only give us about a 40% chance against the Dodgers. Best home team in baseball and they probably have a pitcher with a .78 WHIP at home this year vs 1.14 WHIP of Waino away.

I've thought about that too but that would lead to the division winners being off 4 or 5 days and teams can get stale. The one game playoff may not be ideal but it makes sense. A longer series would also push back the WS even more. Of course they could go back to 154 games in the season but we know that ain't happening.

3 game Wild Card would be a terrible idea imo. I'm complaining a bit now but a 3 game series would throw everything off. Especially when some years you have a play-in game.

Yep, that push things back even worse. I'd rather my team have the one game playoff rather than burn most of my pitching staff in a 2 or 3 game series. Especially if there is a play in game.

Playing more Double headers throughout the season like they used to do would help to minimize any long term overlaps as far as postseason scheduling goes.
Maybe reduce the regular season from 162 games to 158 or 160 which wouldn’t be too drastic. Either that, or go to a true seeding format based on won-loss record.
