saw the Beach Boys live a few years back...it wasn't anything special.

I could have stayed home and listened to a record and gotten the same experience

Pet Sounds was a landmark album. Helped take albums away from one or two hits and a bunch of filler to a creation where all the tracks mattered. And Smile, the never really finished follow up to Pet Sounds, destroyed him, according to some. The Stones, the Kinks any band out there wanted to do their own Pet Sounds. It's what drove the Beatles to make Sgt. Pepper.

Tom Petty once said it would not be wrong to compare Wilson to Beethoven.

One of the most influential producers of all time. Worked with George Martin. Did a lot with Phil Spector o perfect the "Wall of Sound". Pioneered making the studio an instrument. Huge influence on Tony Clarke (Moody Blues), Roy Thomas Baker (Queen), Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, and a slew of others)
