Going back to the 2021 draft many wanted the Broncos to select Justin Fields instead of Patrick Surtain. Anyone still want Fields over Surtain?

Never did.

I guess the only argument would be it saving us the Russell Wilson trade.. But I aint trading Surtain for anythang! Top 2 NFL CB in just two years.

Hopefully Wilson puts a squash to that side of the argument this year.

Fields is a good runner but no way do I take him ahead of Surtain. I don't think Fields is horrible but he hasn't done enough as a passer to tell me he is a long term answer to someone's QB room. Year 3 will be a huge year for him. The Bears were probably smart in trading down because it gives Fields one more year to see what you have in him and if he doesn't improve you have a better QB draft in 2024.

Surtain was the best and surest prospect in that draft with a lot of question marks on the QB's in that draft even at the time. I was very happy with that pick. I do worry about paying a CB the amount he will command though. It is an important position but at a likely $25 Million AAV that is a ton for a player that doesn't have the ball in their hands that much. Aw screw it pay the man, I have his jersey after all!
