Better/Best
The QFTMs are usually in the politics forum, but todays question is a baseball question and I dont want the douchenozzle forum content cops getting in a hissy.
So, with a 60-game schedule, it will only take 186 plate appearances to qualify for the batting title. If someone was ever going to hit .400 again, this would be the season to do, even with the asterisk that would accompany it.
You could argue that the defensive shift and specialized relief pitchers have all but eliminated any chance of a .400 hitter. Over the course of 502 plate appearances needed to qualify in a full season, I would reluntantly agree. But over 186 PAs? Thats doable. And especially, in an era where pitchers are mainly trying to keep the ball in the park but dont make much effort to prevent singles.
A young, fast, disciplined hitter could do it.
But who? Who are the best candidates?
