Since leaving the Texans, Brian Hoyer has had 5 games where he has thrown for 300 yards. Out of 10 starts.

As the Texans QB, Hoyer was often playing with a lead and when he wasn't... the game was close. Where he'd be asked to mostly hand the ball off, play it safe and not lose football games for the team.

Upon leaving, he went to Chicago and now SF. Where he's done nothing but trail every game in (nearly) their entirety. When you're throwing the ball 40+ times, against soft zone coverage's because you're down by 10-20 points. Yardage basically amounts to empty calories in those situations.

O'Brien has had nothing besides either inexperienced young QB's, or veteran cast-offs lacking in ability. If he had QB's who left and started really becoming effective, or established QB's who got there in their prime and suddenly dropped off a cliff. There might be a point to all of this... However, his QB's not passing for 300 yards is usually due to both their restrictions, along with the circumstances of the team having a great defense. It's hard to really say that it's because of his offensive scheme.
