Not sure if I see Shipley starting on the outside but if he wins the job I can live with that.

OFFENSE

QB Andy Dalton: The Who Dey Nation asks, Carson who?

RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis: He's the prize of the Bengals' free-agent period.

FB Chris Pressley: Agreed to a two-year extension in March.

WR A.J. Green: He's been working out with Larry Fitzgerald this offseason.

WR Jordan Shipley: The No. 2 wide receiver job is wide open, but I'm giving the nod to Shipley if he's fully recovered from his knee injury.

TE Jermaine Gresham: First Bengals tight end since Dan Ross from the early 1980s to post two seasons of 50 receptions or more.

LT Andrew Whitworth: He often goes overlooked in a division with Joe Thomas in it.

LG Travelle Wharton: A free-agent signing from the Carolina Panthers, where he started 99 games in eight years.

C Kyle Cook: Enters fourth season as the Bengals' starting center.

RG Kevin Zeitler: First-round pick was possibly best run-blocking guard in the draft.

RT Andre Smith: The big question is whether he can continue the progress he made last season.

DEFENSE

LDE Robert Geathers: Recorded 29 tackles last season, his lowest since his 2004 rookie season.

NT Domata Peko: Led defensive line in tackles for second straight year.

RDT Geno Atkins: Topped all NFL interior linemen with eight sacks last season.

RDE Michael Johnson: Regains his starting job after Frostee Rucker signed with the Browns in free agency.

SLB Manny Lawson: Returned to Cincinnati for a one-year, $2.1 million deal.

MLB Rey Maualuga: He could be facing a suspension from the NFL for his latest off-the-field incident.

WLB Thomas Howard: Led team in tackles in first season with the Bengals.

LCB Nate Clements: He has to fight off first-round pick Dre Kirkpatrick to keep his starting job.

SS Taylor Mays: His job looks safe after the Bengals didn't take a safety in the first four rounds of the draft.

FS Reggie Nelson: Re-signed with the Bengals this offseason for $18 million over four years.

RCB Leon Hall: If Hall (Achilles injury) isn't ready to start the season, Bengals can turn to Kirkpatrick, Terence Newman or Adam Jones.

I won't say that Shipley CANT be the #2 receiver, or that he WONT be the second most productive WR, but the Bengals have him pidgeon holed as a slot receiver.

Also, Kirkpatrick is an instant starter, it lets Hall come back easy, and doesn't put too much stress on Clements. He's most likely the best CB on the team right now.

otherwise good work.

maybe this will be the season the Bengals discover leaping brian leanord.
he was a pretty good college running back; however,
in college he lost his job to ray rice. he ain't no ray rice, but he gets the job done on 3rd down, why not let him in on more downs?

BenJarvus Green-Ellis Game By Game Stats and Performance - Cincinnati Bengals - ESPN

he had a few good games... and a few rotten ones, considering the defense was worried about the passing attack.

Take away the game against the Jets and the Law Firm had no 100 yard games and he averaged 3.4 yards per carry. Ladies and gentleman your 2012 Bengals Prize of Free Agency!!! Are you fucking kidding me? The guy is mediocre at best and on a bad offense he's probably terrible. Who-Dey!

Cue all the folks talking about his fumbling statistics......

What are you trying to say? That the Bengals didn't really have a B+ free agency?

Well we did sign two washed up guards, two defensive line busts, and two average at best corners so I suppose that's an 'A' for Mike Brown.

Lol @ the incorrect exaggeration here. BJGE is a TD scoring machine, even in a passing offense. You praise Gaffney for having stats. BJGE had 24 TDs over the past two years. His ypc was down last year, but it was 4.4 the previous year. Wharton is a very good run blocker and above average guard. Bell does suck. Jason Allen isn't an all pro CB but he's also above average and, like Wharton, is considered a good signing by most people. Harvey is a waste, but Anderson has proven to be a solid player as well.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis is horrible! He's a plodding goal line runner who lacks speed and anyone expecting an improvement in our running game is going to be thoroughly disappointed.

Well, I expect an improvement in the running game, but it has little to do with Green-Ellis. I expect Zeitler/Wharton to open many more holes for the backs than Livings/McGlynn could.......and Green-Ellis does know where the end zone is, unlike Benson.....

Jason Allen was a third corner on the Texans and will be a third at most here. If he were 'above average' it stands to reason that he would be a starter.

And it's not shocking to see that BJGE had that many touchdowns in the NE offense. I'm not holding out much hope for him in this offense - He doesn't seem much different from Bernard Scott.

He's completely different from Scott. He can push a pile and extend drives.

Yes -- He pushes the pile 3.4 yards at a time.

Wouldn't recent history be a better indicator than past history of future success?

There is effectively no sample size to correlate to past success. Therefore, recent history is the best indicator of future success.
