The Saints still don't even have enough money for the TE tag. So the Saints have some work to do.

Neither of their suggestions for New England make any sense. Edelman isn't worth tag money, and while I do believe Talib gets paid and gets paid well by New England, he's not the type of player who you even think about forcing to be there. If he doesn't want to stay, he's gone and they let him be.

I know they dumped a whole bunch of guys on the defensive side of the ball just this past week.

That was just to get under the cap barely. They got a lot of work to do beyond what they already have to sign a guy like graham

Well, I don't know how they're going to do it beyond, "Um....Mr. Brees...can we get you to restructure your contract?"

Problem with a restructure is it just pushes the problem to another year. Teams these days seem to run into cap issues every 5-8 years. This is why dynasties are so tough to do these days. Heck Seattle is already seeing that over the next 2-3 years cap issues are going to rise up as all of their young stars are getting ready to come off rookie contracts

I'm not sure if the tag makes sense for Bennett or not, but he isn't the player they have talked about using it on so far. It's a lot of money and they might be able to lock him up on a lower contract without it, but I can see where it might be advantageous to not have him on a long contract as well. You'd basically be putting off what to do with him until next year when the cap situation becomes a lot more difficult with Wilson's payday coming that season.

When it comes to times like this, the team should come together and make sacrifices for the good of the team. Graham deserves his money, and his teammates should make it happen. But I understand that people don't want to compromise their finances. I just look at how much money these guys make. They can afford to take a little less collectively so Graham can get his money. Or, there is another thing the Saints could do here.

They could get a few players to restructure their contracts and push back their big money to another season. So nobody truly loses money that way. Just have to wait longer to get to it. But that would put the Saints in even more cap hell. They are in a really tough spot, and I think unless they can find a way to get players to take less money, they're going to have to trade, or let go of a few other players.

And that's the problem.....a player has to choose between getting paid a lot of money - and thus making their families future all that more secure - or doing what's best for the team.

They would still get paid a lot of money. So I don't see how it would effect their family that much, but I understand that people want the best possible for their family and they have the right to say,"We agreed on this contract. I shouldn't have to sacrifice anything that we both agreed upon." Its the team's fault for getting in this situation, so the players shouldn't be penalized because of it. Teams need to take the time to evaluate their financial situations before they finalize contracts.

What happens is that teams promise what they have to in order to get the player to stay, counting on the cap to go up in the future. The problem is the cap doesn't go up that much and, when that happens for a while, you can find yourself in cap hell.

Seahawks are going to have some hard choices this year. I think the Seahawks have enough depth to be OK next year. Time will tell.

I don't expect Bennett to be franchised, just to expensive IMO.

I guess that makes sense if you feel like you can compete right away, but it really is playing with fire, and can cause you take steps back in the future. I would avoid doing that if I could.

I think the Seahawks will be one of the favorites coming into next season. They still have their core impact players next season, and I think they win at least 11 games. Its the 2015 season I'd be worried about if I were the Seahawks. You're going to struggle to retain all that talent without putting yourself in cap hell.

The 9ers won't have a franchise player this year but next year will be different.

But here's a question that begs to be asked:

How do you get high priced talent to 'take one for the team' by taking less money when he's already got a ring?

Brady did :noidea:

Honestly it just matters where there priorities lie. But if they're smart and the superstar, they could easily turn an extra ring or two into a lot more endorsement money down the road.

I don't think you can fault someone for making every penny they can, though. You never know when it will be over.
