Steiggy is a dork. Almost all Penguins fans know this. Mike Lange is the true voice of the Penguins, and he always will be. Steiggy got lange's job most likely for money reasons and Steiggy's brother is part of management.

I know most fans of the opposition don't like Lange because of his catch-lines... but other than those, he has fantastic knowledge of the game, and awesome play-by-play delivery.

There's a video on Hulu about Mike Lange, about 15-20 minutes, very nice watch. It was from 2009 though and in Mellon. But I liked it because it showed the lengths that he went through for preparation for the game. He had a whole long sheet of stats to make sure he was correct on everything (still uses paper and pen too, old school) and thought up major talking points, etc. In listening to Steigerwald, he just yammers on forever about something stupid instead of actually calling the game. The amount of times he's been caught chit chatting on air and NOT calling play by play during a big moment is astounding. That and he and Errey are ridiculous homers. Errey is a bit more expected, he's the color guy, he's a former Penguin with a lot of ties to the team clearly, it's not as big a deal...but the two of them together is horribly one sided. Lange calls it like he sees it. Even when the Pens do something wrong Steigy questions it, Errey normally doesn't. But a broadcaster shouldn't be sitting up in the booth saying "What a dive" unless it was 100% blatantly obvious...and even then, don't say those actual words. Make it cryptic. Otherwise you come off as an idiot.

Maybe it's because normally the color guy is supposed to be a bit more chit chatty and a bit more of a homer, but Errey doesn't kill me like Steiggy does. Steiggy also has millions of inappropriate moments. Hobey Baker death joke anyone?

Meh, Errey is no different then most other nhl broadcast crews. Almost all of them have an ex-player doing the color analysis that is a big homer. If you put Errey on with a semi-competent play-by-play announcer that is capable of tangible thought, Errey could elevate his game... kinda like he did when he skated with Mario. Took Errey from a 3rd-4th line guy,and made him a 1 or 2 line guy.

Errey's at least funny. And he's a homer, but no one's on the level of Steiggy when it comes to homerism.

Actually, my dream would be to get Lange back on TV and get a new freaking producer at FSN. Who ever runs the show over there must only have his GED or something, because they're horrible. Hockey is a fast paced game, so cutting to anything during play that isn't the actual play is a bad choice. Showing the goalies face for 5-10 seconds just because he made a great save is stupid. I know what they look like, and that's not the play. Cutting to a guy leaving the penalty box is also stupid, because they SKATE AWAY. Using the little dasher board camera to show the puck hit the ice on a faceoff isn't cool during a play, especially when you take 10 seconds to cut back to the normal camera. HINT: hockey fans want to watch the play, not the other stuff.

Pretty sure they didn't even fire him for that. I just don't understand how someone could be that incompetent at their job and still be around. Maybe I should write a strongly worded letter. I just would like to see the faceoffs every time, not a replay that lags over. Just little things like that add up very quickly.

so true.. he what, got suspended for the rest of the season then reinstated? i'm pretty sure if you or i did something considered illegal to our company (when we find them haha) we would not get 'reinstated'..

i'm not the best to ask, i haven't seen a whole lot of CSN Philly broadcasts, being an out of towner..

however, from what i have seen.. Coatsey is the homer of the flyers broadcast, and he's mostly an idiot.. he's funny though, cause he plays off being an idiot, and doesn't take himself (nor do the other guys) seriously..

they probably are similar when it comes to showing penalties though.. seems like all hockey broadcasts lack penalty coverage, which really disappoints me.. CSN DC has an ovechkam, which would be much better served looking for penalties IMO.. they also have craig laughlin who is retarded.
