I've kinda been more anxious for this one more than usual. I probably just want to see if Nick ties Harvey.

Or if he wins the Steve Yzer...er..I mean Mark Messier award.:lalala:

The Getzlaf/Ryan skit should be pretty decent entertainment from what I've heard.

Skinner will win the Calder so it's kind of blah for me.

The one award that interests me is the Lady Byng. I'm curious if anyone knows how many defenseman have won it? Would Lidstrom be the first?:bounce:

Datsyuk would be the first in line to poke fun of Nick if he wins it. Pavel always had some good quotes about the Lady Byng.

20 STINKIN PENALTY MINUTES?? No wonder Lidstrom is up for the Lady Byng Award.

Scott Stevens is LAUGHING HIS FUCKING ASS OFF.

Sorry, but I think it's embarrassing for a defenseman to be up for the Lady Byng, let alone win it.

I think that speaks to the caliber of player though.

Most penalties by a defenceman (but definitely not all) are taken because of being out of position or making a bad play and having to recover from it. The guy is good enough to rarely put himself in a position to have to take a penalty.

Daniel should have donated $750,001 to childrens hospital to break the tie

on that note: DSedin values the Foundation award more than the Hart

Daniel Sedin, as any Canuck fan can tell you, is one of the three finalists for the most coveted individual awards in the NHL.

The Hart Trophy, which will be presented today at the league's annual award ceremony, is given to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team, and its past winners include the game's true immortals. It is the trophy of Gretzky, of Lemieux, of Orr, of Howe -and this is not lost on Sedin, who also won the Art Ross as the NHL's leading scorer this season.

"I'm honoured to be here," he said at Tuesday's media availability in Vegas. "There are two other guys [Anaheim's Corey Perry and Tampa Marty St. Louis] who are pretty good players too."

But the Hart isn't the only hardware Sedin is up for today. He and his twin brother -and what does it say about the Sedins that they're listed as an entry?-are up for something called the NHL Foundation Player of the Year Award.

Now, the Foundation award is not one of the most coveted trophies in the NHL. Truth be told, it's only been presented for the last 12 years and if this was the Oscars, it would be one of those awards they announced before the ceremony.

But it's a funny thing. When asked which trophy means more, Daniel answered, "Obviously, it's the Foundation Award."

And if you think he was playing to the cameras, then you haven't been paying attention for the last decade.

"Our first year [with the Canucks], we learned that's what you're going to do," said the 30-year-old Swede of his record for public work. "It's a given."

"I think the No. 1 thing is when we had kids ourselves, it brought something extra into us. We realized we had a chance to do something special. It's a good feeling knowing you can help others out."

The Foundation Award, just so you know, is presented to players for their charitable work. Daniel and Henrik are in the process of donating $1.5 million to the B.C. Children's Hospital. They're also involved in a myriad of other charitable endeavours.

"Whether it's Daniel or his brother, they're both extraordinary people first and foremost," said their head coach Alain Vigneault. "They're great hockey players second."

It's the second part, of course, most hockey fans are interested in and Daniel didn't exactly disappoint this season His 104 points (on 41 goals and 63 assists) were five more than St. Louis. Perry, meanwhile, led the NHL with 50 goals and might be a slight favourite heading into tonight's extravaganza.

But you sense Sedin isn't exactly preoccupied with the outcome of this vote. While it would make for an extraordinary chapter in the game's history -last season Henrik won the Ross and the Hart, this season his twin brother might repeat the feat -the Sedins judge their success by a different standard.

"You don't set goals like this," Daniel said. "You try to be as good as you can. We have such a great team right now.

"It's easy for each player to have success."

It was also easy to single out the Sedins for their lack of production during the Stanley Cup final and, predictably, they haven't tried to shift the responsibility. As Vigneault said on Tuesday: "You look at the twins and what they said, 'We're paid to score and we didn't score.'"

"That's accountability and that's what you want as a coach."

By the same token, they don't expect a fuss to be made over their good works. They don't do it for the notoriety and they certainly don't do it for their public image.

They do it because it's the right thing to do. Come to think of it, that's the way they approach their profession. Maybe there's a reason they're successful at both ventures

I think it would be more embarrasing for the rest of the defensemen in the NHL, because that big pussy is gonna win the Norris too.

Why? The work you do in the community should be the reward itself, not the trophy. And what kind of hockey player wouldn't value the Hart or Pearson/Lindsay(?) over any other individual award. You have your whole life to do work in the community, you have a small time frame to be the best hockey player in the world. It sounds like PR to me. If not, I have a little less respect for Daniel.

I think I enjoy the skits/presentations as much as the awards. Last year, this was hilarious...
