Yeah 3-4 DEs are typically 300lbs or better. There are ways to use all three. Additionally we have no idea how long Kerrigan is going to be here. Typically when guys get big contracts they are only going to be here for part of the contract. This year he made (cap number) a little over $6 million. By 2017 that goes to $11 million.

Bottom line is Murphys play time was cut so Smith could be on the field. Smith is producing. Why would a successful draft pick like gk says get his playtime cut? Don't get me wrong, I hope he plays well but it seems Smith has the higher ceiling.

Murphy's playing time was cut because Smith is the better pass rusher and we have been in more defensive pass situations because we have been winning.

A successful pick would have his PT cut because of situational football. You need to understand that not all parts of the game are equal.

I also never said Murphy was a successful pick. You did. You gave your criteria on what makes a guy a successful second round pick and Murphy definitely met your criteria of a successful pick. He has been as successful as more than half of the second round picks. You have no idea what my criteria for success is because I didn't fool heartedly give one. Success can't be determined in year two.

On your last point, I agree with your statement and never said anything differently. I agree Smith has a higher ceiling...I would say a much higher ceiling.

What it seems is you allow emotion to get in the way. You didn't like the Murphy pick when it happened because you wanted Moses there and you want to feel vindicated. The problem is 32 experts thought you were wrong. Actual experts...people who get paid to do this. We still got Moses and we got Murphy (a guy with a year and a half of starts). The evidence that states Murphy at this point is a better football player is obvious...he is the starter and gets more playing time.

gk this is what you wrote:

Fewer than half of the second rounders from three years ago met your threshold of being a starter in year three. Trent Murphy has been the starter most of his career. He may not be next season...time will tell but for now, he was a successful pick. He isn't as flashy as many of you would like but he is a solid football player just like Rob Ninkovich.

I bolded what you said.

Did you read the part before that? For now?

And it was based off the criteria you gave for success.

I don't understand what is hard to see. They all play. Football is situational in this day and age. Guys in guys out depending on packages both offensively and defensively. If both guys are contributing where are you getting the idea one of them is a wasted pick?
