It's way too early to predict who takes the Cup and so on for the 2011 season, especially since we don't even know what the starting rosters will be. At least, it's too early for most people.

I'm throwing out my Cup finalists prediction before I have any information to base it on. I seem to have the same results either way.

We are going to have a Penguins/Blackhawks final. "Why?" you may ask. Because Marian Hossa is still on the Hawks, so they make it. The Penguins look to be in top form at the blueline, their powerplay can't be worse, and they've got one of the strongest offensive cores in the league.

If anyone disputes, I will simply point out their lack of information.

I predict the Islanders beat the Orlando Magic to win the Super Bowl.

Brett Favre scores the World Cup-winning goal after A-Rod gets a double minor for high sticking.

Edit: Seriously, Vancouver beats Washington in the final. Yes, I like our additions that much!

flyers-canucks

the flyers now have the best defense in hockey. they made it to the cup finals last year and have only improved.

the hawks are just not the same team while the canucks just got stronger.

If I had to pick now I'd go with Red Wings vs Penguins.

Pittsburgh got a lot better on D. The Red Wings can't possibly have as many injuries as they did last year. Besides the word CLUTCH & Luongo don't mix.

Canucks vs. a coin flip of Flyers/Pens.

If Philly can sign a half decent goalie I say they have a great chance of taking the eastern spot. Possibly even Pit since they still have a good D and a solid group of Centers. As for the west I'm really not too sure. I don't think Chicago will make it just because of all the players they had to unload. If LA manages to pull Kovy I have a feeling they could pull some magic or possibly I would go with the 'Yotes.

Phoenix/LA v.s. Philly/Pit

obviously as a flyers fan i have a deep rooted hatred of the pens.. but to be honest, i'm not seeing the strength that everyone seems to be seeing.. ya they'll be good on defense, but not insane, they'll still have an AHL'er playing on the 3rd pair, and they're the strongest team up the middle in the league.. but i dont see cooke, goddard, dupuis, kennedy, adams, kunitz, and 2 AHL guys as even ranking in the top 20 in the NHL as far as winger corps go.. and that's assuming fluery bounces back to being a real NHL starter (no room to talk.).. of course AHL guys could prove me wrong, i just dont see the pens to be as strong as everyone else

i think the flyers are in good shape to get back, as long as they dont completely fuck up the next move or so, aka moving a wing and not getting one back.. the defense is one of, if not the, best since the lockout, strong up the middle, have a few solid wingers (i think giroux plays RW, and leino).. only question is of course goalie, but leighton played well last year

bruins are my other team from the east.. a great team already and it adds a projected superstar in seguin.. look out

not nearly as much knowledge in the west.. but the wings are my guess.. they havent really gotten any better, but they've gotten healthy.. and i have a hard time counting out any team with z, dats, lidstrom, and the mules (franz and holm)

if the kings get kovalchuk they could make a deep run as well

could this be the year the east is finally stronger than the west? maybe?

no i just think the east is top heavy. the west overall i think has stronger teams. i am surprised more people did not pick the canucks. their offense is great, their defense got even better, and they have luongo.

as far as the penguins go, i am not sure if they are going to add anyone although i am not seeing how great their defense is either. they replaced gonchar with martin who is very similar and they added michalek who is an upgrade although he is a 3-4 defenseman.
