Yeah but when voting all the outfielders are lumped together. His OPS among AL outfielders is 16th. He honestly shouldn't even be an all star IMO.

But here's the fWAR among OF'ers- if you take fWAR literally here and assume no change until the ASG:

Trout: 3.2
A.Jones: 2.2
Cain... : 2.1

It's really not that ridiculous to suggest Cain can justify a start in the ASG via defense even under some pretty rigid methodology. I am generally assuming the guy who has led LF'ers in fWAR the past three years, and 5th overall among OF'ers, 3rd among AL OF'ers, to make a more serious push on top of what looks like another very solid campaign so far for serious consideration.

See this link, for example: American League Leaderboards 2015 Outfielders Dashboard | FanGraphs Baseball

American League Leaderboards 2015 Center Feilders Fielding Statistics | FanGraphs Baseball

Another link to show it's not quite UZR variance shenanigans:

In the third voting update released Monday, four Kansas City players -- catcher Salvador Perez (4,419,620 votes), outfielder Lorenzo Cain (4,211,472), third baseman Mike Moustakas (4,046,726) and shortstop Alcides Escobar (3,928,985) -- lead the entire league in voting, with three more of their teammates -- first baseman Eric Hosmer (3,551,005), outfielder Alex Gordon (3,393,134) and designated hitter Kendrys Morales (3,269,634) -- also in line for starting spots.

my picks
C-Vogt/Posey
1B-miggy/goldy
2B-kipnis/panik
SS-iggy/Tulo
3B-donaldson/frazier
RF-Cruz/Harper
CF-Trout/polluck
LF-Brantley/Holiday
DH-morales

Yeah, the ballot stuffers are rather out of control. Take this for example:

CHAQu0KVAAIoK9l.jpg

Would never have guessed the 29th ranked media market would even have the capacity to stuff a ballot box in this era... seems to be heading down the road of '57 though with no sign of turning course.

I kind of wonder if these are even legit votes casted at all. Just look at the votes to population ratio on the chart I posted. Should just about be impossible for a metro that small to have an impact as if they were Tokyo.

LF/RF are offense first positions. CF isn't. it's not really fair to compare a CF to a LF/RF.

True that.

But when talking All Star game the stats should matter.

Trout can play CF

I still don't get it, when did Kansas City become the tech capitol of the US? Doesn't other cities, much more populated, have computers?

PS. write in votes Colon and Dyson, lol.

There has to be a computer "glitch", hopefully they figure it out after the all star game though.

It is early, so other, more techy areas will get in on it in the coming weeks. IIRC, the Giants stuffers didnt get into the game until about 2 weeks before the voting closed in '12.

Also, both KC and St Louis are having strong years, so there is SOME legit-ness to their getting a lot of love nationally. Add to that both teams locals are going crazy because of their success, and it isnt that hard to believe this push.

But seriously, Molina over Posey??? Holliday over Joc, Upton, Stanton and McCutchen?

C'Mon, Man...

Hanley's defense is putrid. Raul Ibanez might be a better fielder

Norris, I think, is the clear #2 catcher in the NL right now.

I cant argue a bit of homerism. This game is intended for the fans, after all...

What's the argument for Upton over Pederson? I know Upton has the much higher BA, but Pederson gets on base more and hits for more power. He also has been solid defensively.

molsaniceman: Didn't mean to quote you on that. But what's the argument for Holliday over Pederson?

Posey and Norris should make it, and I think they will. Although I think Molina will take that 3rd spot even though Francisco Cervelli is flying under the radar since he's only played 44 games.
