you know what gets me ? last week the coach didnt give him enough reps according to some here on this board and i pointed out he got as many as his peers .

this week there is whining that he was left in there TOO long and he would have had less reps then week one

some of you all arent ever going to be pleased

the 1st team offense sucked vs the lions and everyone who took the field deserves the bashing they are getting

now the season is doomed because willie smith (a guy who wont make the team ) was a turnstile and Rg3 is a moron

how about we let this thing play out a little more before we collectively quit after 36 preseason snaps ?

the next game vs baltimore will add some more knowledge to this but lets be real until the games really start and we really start game planning and we really start playing our best guys we wont know how bad or good a team we have

i have us at 6-10 and that is about right to this point

Apples and elephants Dad. First off I didn't see too many people on this board complaining that he was left in too long last night and that's what you are talking about, the people on this board. Looking back one guy suggested he not play without Williams. One poster. And you want to apply that to all of us. Second he wasn't getting destroyed on every pass play last week as was the case last night. Two totally different situations.

For the record I didn't want him taken out last night. Trent may very well go down on the first play of the opener, we can't just put Griff in the best position possible. We need to play him in rain, snow, and with injuries up front.

With that said anyone comparing the QBs play last night, saying "see Colt and Kirk can move the team" didn't pay attention. They weren't under nearly the same amount of pressure and as the post earlier showed they were set up with great first down runs.

But good God was that OL a concern. Moses I thought was OK, Scherff and of course Smith were terrible.

A quick slant? LOL, Guy was getting clobber on the fastest throw you can make, a one step drop quick throw. Virtually every throw he was hit in 2 seconds, literally, and it's not all pocket presence.

Again the coaches have to see what they have, they can't coddle Griffin by only playing him when Trent Williams is in the game. But if Trent was in the game he would have at least had a chance,

You know what you can pick and choose what you want from what I said I'm trying to be polite on a rivals board but they did not even try it with RG3.
Bottom line the 1's on Washington sucked moose @#$% last night. not polite but true
Gruden has some kind of issue with RG3 its not coddling its smart coaching when your QB is getting killed to take him out.
Simple to understand IMHO Gruden does not seem to care or wants RG3 out . opinion no more no less
have a good weekend DGF :suds:

i think we need not let game 2 of the preseason dictate any real feelings one way or the other . scherf is a rookie , he had a bad game . those will happen . will smith just got abused . it too could have been a bad game or more likely he isnt up to the task as a BU LT . so you may have to insert compton at RT and move moses over to LT when trent goes down

its preseason , you need to know about all of your players not just the qb

a good performance next week and this is forgotten another bad one and it snowballs

but look we are a team that needs solid depth and you are still seeing holes in that area

it will take time

Five observations from the Redskins’ second preseason game - The Washington Post

1 The lack of success in the trenches made it hard to evaluate Griffin

Not only for Griffin but any QB for that matter. We all should have expected this type of performance because we have an OL that is in its infancy stage of growing. Also Trent was out. Moses, well he seems okay but time will tell. Personally I believe we still need a legitimate RT.

2 Coaches have said they like the depth of their offensive line, but last night’s play sparks legitimate concern.
Smith looked like he didn’t belong. Gruden said last night that the team does have other options – one of which could involve sliding Moses to left tackle and using Tom Compton as a right tackle should Williams ever get hurt.

Oh my that's sounds horrible. Our only option is time and the upcoming league’s final round of roster cuts. I like the idea of going with an extra OL. this should improve the running game and add quarterback protection. If the young OL don't eventually come around later on this season then we are back at square one because of the depth issue. That is ashame because this yr's draft was awfully deep in the OL. So we can expect more of this type of OL performance in the near future.

Sorry there Cowboy, I didn't mean to come off as rude. Apologize if I did. I just don't understand your point. Gruden called safe plays as you suggested. Gruden also called other passes. I just don't understand how this is on the coach. He needs to get his starter reps, he needs to see what he can do. You can't coddle him by only playing him with the top guys, as I said Trent could go down on the first series of the opener and they aren't going to pull Griffin then so why not play him in a preseason game with only one starting OL not in the game?

Agree with you on Scherff, way too early to judge but the early returns are concerning. As for Willie Smith he is not a rookie, he has been in the league for a few years, and this is who he is. And clearly he is not an option. Hate to shuffle the OL as you suggested but it appears to be our only option should Trent go down. And Trent has had an injury history.

As we said again way too early but our rookie struggled at RT and was move to RG where he was run over on the first pass play of the game. Meanwhile.....

Williams Showcases His Skills
Well Leonard has been showing some promising signs but it's a bit soon to be crowning draft picks king of the hill.

And FWIW, Pretty sure it was the 2s when the sacks came. And he got free shots. Atlanta didn't even bother accounting for him... Context is important to include.

One thought on Leonard from Manny

Seems like what you'd expect from top drafted rookie to me. Some good, some bad.

I completely agree with the notion that what's important is the development of Redskins rookies.

That said, it will always be interesting to see how the other top draft picks pan out.

Griffin and the Offensive Line poor performances raise a number of questions - Fanspeak Washington Redskins Blog

Excerpt

The biggest issue with the first string offense was the play of the offensive line. Now the Redskins were without their elite starting LT Trent Williams and started Willie Smith in his place, but the other four offensive linemen were all projected starters. Though it is clear that Willie Smith was out of his element, it’s worth noting that the Lions were without 2 starting defensive linemen, Haloti Ngata and Jason Jones, who are their 2nd and 3rd best linemen. The Lions did have Ziggy Ansah on one side, but opposite him was Daryl Tapp, who is a journeyman guy and 2 years ago was the Redskins 4th OLB. Ansah only played 8 snaps and Tapp was only out there for the first couple series as well. It’s pretty troubling that the Redskins couldn’t handle the line that they faced vs the Lions and have a better performance protecting Griffin and opening up running lanes.

The Redskins will hopefully have Trent Williams healthy for the entire season, but he’s just one guy and most weeks they will face more complete and talented defensive fronts than what they saw for a quarter last night. The Redskins need to get their offensive line clicking quickly for when the season starts, otherwise you can expect more of the same. The Lions did have a couple blitzes in their arsenal, but it probably wasn’t as creative as a defensive game plan that will be thrown at the Redskins starting offensive line during the season. So it’s pretty troubling that the line struggled so poorly.

While the line is definitely still a concern, Griffin’s performance and injury are cause for greater worry for this season and the future. Now the sample was no doubt small and given the offensive line performance Griffin had the deck stacked against him, but at some point if he wants to be considered a good starting quarterback, there can’t be excuses and there have to be results.

The margin of error might have been razor thin last night given the lack of Trent Williams and the overall play of the offensive line, but Griffin has to step up and make up for the poor offensive line performance. As noted above the Lions were basically playing a 2nd unit defensive line (in some cases 3rd unit guys) vs Griffin, so this wasn’t exactly the Fearsome Foursome he had to deal with. Some of the sacks and hits were unavoidable, but a couple were questionable and a couple (including the final play for the unit) was on him. Again the sample size is extremely small for this game, but the troubling thing is over these 8 drop backs we see the same issues that have plagued Griffin throughout his career. He’s not reading coverage/blitzes, he’s staring down receivers, and not feeling pressure correctly, and perhaps the biggest issue is that he put the ball on the ground twice in 8 dropbacks.

well this speaks to the lack of knowledge about the detroit defensive line . they have one of the best in the NFL and go very deep , much like ours

I'm not in a jump off the cliff frenzy mode here.

It was a preseason game and a very small sample.

But there are areas of concern. And Griffin and our Oline are 2 of them. The Oline I see as an improving, work in progress. Griffin in the pocket, not so much.

Based on The way Dallas Drafted OL when Callahan was here the Redskins are 2 Drafts away from fixing the OL
That's if they hit on the draft picks and find some UDFA gems or later round steals. Dallas OL which is projected to be very good "they need to live up to the Hype" has 3 #1 picks a UDFA and 4th rounder at RT.

I give full credit to Will McClay the director of scouting that guy is worth his weight in gold IMHO. But that's a lot of resources to commit to the OL and it took Jerry watching the OL almost get Romo Killed to fix it. Callahan is the most underrated OL coach in the NFL IMHO. He is a Ok HC and a OK OC but he is genius at OL!!!!!

Given time I think the new GM in DC can get it done. I don't think RG3 will survive the process and neither will Jay Gruden. Ugly football is in the future while the team grows IMO. The biggest obstacle in DC is Dan Snyder if he can be patient and trust the GM y'all got a chance that also includes obtaining a QB that is more prototypical than RG3 or designing your offense to use the strength of the QB that you have.

When the burgundy and gold are serious playoff material again the NFCE is always better. The NFC East won 4 Super-Bowls in a row no other division has done that In the NFL
You cant have good Cowboys with out good Indians :D

:suds:Cheers guys to a healthy season
