I was told it was caught with a lure that replicated a shiner, he also had an open face bait casting reel made by shakespeare. Both those items were rare to fish with in deep southern country lakes back then. Really rare to fish with anywhere except offshore in those days. Most folks used cane poles and live bait. (worms and crickets for panfish/shiners, frogs, and night crawlers for Bass/crawfish, perch, worms, soap and cheese for catfish) Cant say what Northern fishermen used for walleye and pike back then, I know Salmon and Trout fisherman mainly Fly fished.
