2021 Super Bowl Champions Rams
I took some time off of work to play.
Im not sure I understand Fallout. Its not a twitch game with intense gameplay. Its not a game with a great story. Its not a visually appealing game.
I'm clearly missing something

The Leveling engine in the FO3 games were awesome. The world stayed the same (generally) as you leveled. Oblivion and Skyrim both had the world level up with you, so I fealt that leveling was almost a detriment in those games (not so much in Skyrim, but definitely in Oblivion). I hope FO4 keeps this engine. The perks system in FO3 was also very well done. I can only assume FO4 will be an improvement.I generally consider level design to be the most important aspect of most video games
I assume they are using the Homestead add-on for Skyrim as the foundation of this aspect of the game. I just hope they added to it. That was tedious as all hell in Skyrim.Complete freedom is Fallout, kill anyone, go anywhere, craft your own weapons, armor, build your own settlement, there is always something to do. Most open world games have big open lands with a whole lot of noting going on. The perks in the game are the best add ons you will find in a game. There is so much depth to it, I was putting in around 400 hours of play time for each character I started. Most of all it is a blast to play.
I just think it is the best game.

I remember the leveling system in Oblivion was a bit odd when poor thieves would attack you in the end game with Diamond Armor. The Leveling engine in the FO3 games were awesome. Yea, I saw that.I guess the review answered your question,
The other big difference involves Fallout 4 getting its Minecraft on. A full-fledged crafting system is on display, taking what New Vegas did and evolving it tremendously. You can of course upgrade any piece of armor or weaponry you find with a variety of mods, but you can also build entire settlements out of the various scrap and junk collected throughout the Commonwealth. All that pointless vendor trash in prior games now have uses, providing materials for building.
Crafting is simple, though not brilliantly explained by the game itself. Similarly to Minecraft, you select various objects to build and place them around the world from your player character’s perspective, plonking down defensive turrets, crops, walls, or even entire buildings. As your settlements grow and attract people, you’ll need to ensure water, food, power, and furniture are in adequate supply, as well as ensure idle inhabitants are assigned to work the fields or man the defenses.
I wasn’t too into the crafting at first, and felt a few of the missions forced it onto me too much, but after hours of tinkering, I’ve become quite fond of making my own home in the Commonwealth, complete with disco lights and bobblehead display cases. I’m still yet to get the perk that will allow me to build entire trading outposts, but I’m looking forward to it.
The only major drawback to crafting is the need to lug that aforementioned junk around. Rather than just dumping all the desk fans and ashtrays you pick up, you’ll soon see them as valuable assets, providing rare screws or precious ceramic for the building of stuff. The biggest cause of becoming encumbered and maxing out one’s carrying capacity is this need for scrap, which can get rather annoying if you didn’t build your character with strength in mind.
Fallout IS slow.I remember the leveling system in Oblivion was a bit odd when poor thieves would attack you in the end game with Diamond Armor.
I just remember getting out of the shelter in FO3 and wandering into a couple of cities and not really being invested or tied to them. There were some interesting subway sequences but it unfolded kind of slowly and I felt like I was fighting the same 3 enemies over and over and over again. I might give it a Redbox treatment just to see if the pacing and combat and character interactions work for me.
I don't mind slow sometimes. The Game Informer review I looked at made the game seem very appealing even when compared to FO3. The world seems...more..everything which is important. Social dialogue and combat seem improved which is also important.Fallout IS slow.
It is a great game, but if you are looking for a 150 mph game, I suggest you look elsewhere.
